The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), calculated by IBGE, increased 0.21% in February, 0.21 percentage points below the rate of the previous month (0.42%). The cumulative rate in 12 months was 4.47%, slightly below the 4.56% recorded in the preceding 12 months. In February 2018, the index was 0.30%. The national cost of construction, per square meter, which in January was at R$1,118.60, increased to R$1,120.99 in February:  R$583.63 related to materials and R$537.36 to labor force.

The share of materials rose 0.55%, up 0.36 percentage points against the previous month (0.19%) and stable against February 2018 (0.54%).

The value of labor force decreased by -0.15%, falling by 0.83 percentage points in relation to the previous month and by 0.21 percentage points in comparison with February 2018.

The cumulative rates in the year were 0.74% (materials) and 0.53% (labor force), and in 12 months, 5.99% (materials) and 2.89% (labor force).

Southeast and Central-West Regions boost monthly changes

The Southeast and Central-West regions, with 0.28%, and positive rates in all their states, had the largest regional change in February. The other regions presented the following results: 0.09% (North), 0.12% (Northeast) and 0.26% (South).

The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$1,124.34 (North); R$1,040.67 (Northeast); R$1,171.12 (Southeast); R$1,162.51 (South) and R$1,128.33 (Central-West).

Piauí records highest increase

With an increase in the share of materials, Piauí, with 0.98%, was the state that presented the highest monthly change.
