The IBGE relaunches today (26) the Countries portal, which gathers information about the 193 UN member countries. Besides basic information such as territory, currency and language, the platform presents data on social, economic, environmental, population, health and communication indicators. For more information, click here.
In its new version of Countries, users can create thematic rankings and compare indicators from up to five different countries. By choosing, for example, the topic "population", it is possible to rank countries by total population, population by sex, population density, gross mortality rate and gross birth rate. The total population list features, in the first five positions: China, India, United States of America, Indonesia and Brazil.
It is also possible to compare the GDP of countries. The "economy" section presents "total GDP", and provides a list in which the United States of America, China and Japan, respectively, are the top three countries, and Kiribati, Nauru and Tuvalu, the last three ones. Once information can be viewed in the form of graphs, disparities between countries become more visible.
Comparing indicators between countries is another possibility. By selecting the topic "heath", for example, one can find information on the average daily calorie intake in each country, for example, Austria, with 3,768 calories/day and Central African Republic, with 1720 calories/day, in 2016. In terms of "economy", one can also find out the number of tourist arrivals per year. That figure reached 6.5 million in Brazil and 5.5 million in Argentina, in 2016.
Information on the website comes from international agencies and allow comparability between countries. The portal has a resource for automatic import of data, that is, information will be changed as they updated in the original sources, thus reducing the risk of errors. The portal is available in three languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish.
