The IBGE will launch next Friday (September 28), the book Brazil on the agenda – The IBGE communication path, which derives from meticulous historical research in archives, interviews and reports, portraying a picture of the main communication projects and personas in the IBGE, from the creation of the Institute up to the present days.
The launch will be at 2:00 pm, in the Auditorium of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination (706, General Canabarro Street, Maracanã - Rio de Janeiro). At the occasion of the event, the IBGE president, Roberto Olinto Ramos, will speak about: How the IBGE is getting ready for communication in future times. Journalists Flávia Oliveira and Beth Cataldo will also be present.
Written by historian Nelson Senra and IBGE journalists Silvia Maia and Teresa Millions, the volume tells the story of communication inside one of the oldest institutions of the country. In addition, it highlights the work of some of its remarkable workers.
The publication is divided into four parts. The first one encompasses the period from 1936 to 1979 and addresses The initial steps of communication, at the time of the first Institute's president, Teixeira de Freitas. Back then, we can see the emerging dissemination technology, with the implementation of the Press Service, accounting for the first publications and, later, the advent of computer, which revolutionized the work processes and communication products.
The second part (1979-1999) highlights The incoming electronic communication, which made either production or editing and printing more simple, not to mention the communication advance it represented – as electronic media were introduced – despite the fact that paper was still very much used. The challenges would increase and find an answer in the entrance of the IBGE in the World Wide Web - the Internet.
The third part of the book (1999-2017) focuses on The new communication age, when there was a quality leap, joining citizenship and technological resources, with the participation of journalist Mário Gazzaneo as Communication Coordinator. His prestige attracted the great media and made room for the IBGE. Media training was also provided in order to show technicians the importance of coping with journalists. New vehicles came up and new media were incorporated (Twitter, Facebook, etc.). In 2012, the Integrated Communication Policy was written.
The fourth part (2017 - current days) – Tomorrow's communication has already begun - shows how much potential technical, technological and human resources hold, as well as knowledge accumulated throughout the years in the communication sector of the IBGE so as to catch up with the nonstop social transformations.
The book also brings a timeline, providing an overview of this journey, where the reader will be able to find out the different phases and vehicles created to meet the demands of the most diverse audiences. In the preface, journalist Flávia Oliveira, which graduated as a Statistician from the National School of Statistical Sciences - ENCE, reveals comprehensive knowledge on the subject and shows the importance of the IBGE to society.
