National Index of Civil Construction changes 0.46% in March

Published by the IBGE, the National Index of Civil Construction - Sinapi changed 0.46% in March, standing 0.27 percentage points above the rate in the previous month (0.19%). As a result, the rate in the last 12 months stayed at 5.39%, below the figure of 5.77% recorded in the immediately previous 12 months. The index stayed at 0.82% in March 2016. Having closed February at R$1,033.16, the national cost of construction per square meter rose to R$1,037.96, being R$534.22 relative to materials and R$503.74 to labor force.
The share relative to materials changed 0.06%, well below the rate registered in the previous month (0.37%). The share relative to labor force rose 0.90%, whereas it remained stable last month. The cumulative rates in 12 months stood at 1.68% (materials) and at 9.65% (workforce).
Southeast Region records the highest monthly change
Having risen 0.70%, the Southeast Region recorded the highest regional change in March. The figures in the other regions were: 0.15% (North), 0.42% (Northeast), 0.23% (South) and 0.25% (Central-West). The regional costs per square meter rose to: R$1,052.31 (North); R$960.27 (Northeast); R$1,085.96 (Southeast); R$1,073.93 (South) and R$1,042.08 (Central-West).
Minas Gerais posts the highest rise in March
Minas Gerais (3.09%) was the state with the highest monthly change, due to the pressure exerted by the salary adjustment of the collective work agreement. It was followed by Maranhão (2.51%), also under the impact of the adjustment in the collective agreement.
SINAPI, created in 1969, has the purpose of producing information on costs and indexes in a systematic way and with a national coverage, in order to elaborate and evaluate budgets as well as monitor costs.
