Agricultural storage capacity grows 1.1% and reaches 233.8 million tonnes in the second half of 2025

In the 2nd half of 2025, the capacity available for storage in Brazil was 233.8 million tonnes, 1.1% higher than the previous half. The number of establishments (9,668) grew 0.5% compared to the first half of 2025.
During this period, only the South Region showed a reduction in the number of establishments, while the others showed an increase, with a highlight to the North Region, which increased by 4.7%; followed by the Northeast (1.9%); Southeast (1.5%) and Central-West (0.3%).
In relation to the stocks of the five main agricultural products existing in storage units, on 12/31/2025, corn stocks represented the largest volume (22.8 million tonnes), followed by soybean stocks (7.3 million), wheat (6.0 million), rice (2.9 million) and coffee (0.8 million). These products constitute 90.3% of the total stock among the products monitored by this survey, with the remaining 9.7% made up of cotton, black beans, colored beans, and other grains and seeds. In total, the survey collected 44.1 million tonnes of products that it monitors.
Silo capacity reaches 124.7 million tonnes, an increase of 1.2%
The total useful capacity available in Brazil for storage, recorded in the second half of 2025, in establishments active in the survey, was 233.8 million tonnes, 1.1% higher than the previous half. In terms of useful storable capacity, silos predominate in the country, having reached 124.7 million tonnes, which represents 53.3% of the total useful capacity. In relation to the previous semester, the silos showed an increase of 1.2% in capacity.
In the South Region, silos are responsible for 65.6% of regional storage capacity. The Region concentrates 42.7% of the country's total silo capacity.
Conventional, structural and inflatable warehouses predominate in the South Region (34.1%), followed by the Southeast Region (32.2%). These regions are, respectively, major producers of rice and coffee, products that are stored in bags and use this type of warehouse. The South and Southeast, together, correspond to 66.3% of the country's total conventional, structural and inflatable warehouse capacity.
In the distribution of storage types, by Federation Unit, Rio Grande do Sul has the largest number of storage establishments (2,444), followed by Mato Grosso, with 1,799 and Paraná, with 1,372 units.
Mato Grosso has the largest storage capacity in the country, with 64.2 million tonnes. Of this total, 58.8% are bulk carriers and 37.1% are silos. Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná have 38.9 and 35.7 million tonnes of capacity, respectively, with silos being the predominant type of warehouse in these States. The installed capacity is directly related to the distribution of grain production in the country.

Among the ten municipalities with the largest installed storage capacity in the country, seven are located in Mato Grosso, with Sorriso having the largest capacity in the country at 5.9 million tonnes. Grain warehouses (bulk storage) account for 76.4% of the total municipal capacity, which is the largest national producer of soybeans and corn. Sorriso accounts for 9.1% of the state's storage capacity and, together with Nova Mutum, Primavera do Leste, Sinop, Campo Novo do Parecis, Sapezal, and Lucas do Rio Verde, account for 37.8% of the state's capacity.
In Goiás, the highlight is the municipality of Rio Verde, which accounts for 14.5% of the state's storage capacity. Ponta Grossa stands out with the largest installed storage capacity in Paraná and the seventh largest municipality in the country, with 2.6 million tonnes, with grain warehouses being the main type of structure (48.8%), followed by silos, with 41.4%. In São Paulo, the highlight is Santos, home to the country's largest port, which holds 15.0% of the state's storage capacity, with bulk carriers predominating at 60.5% of Santos' storage capacity.
The time series of the Survey of Stocks shows that since 1997, the total installed usable capacity has increased by 112.5%, rising from 110.0 to 233.8 million tonnes.
