O Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA) of July was 0.26%, 0.02 percentage points (p.p.) above the rate in June (0.24%). Cumulative IPCA in 12 months is 3.26% and, in the last 12 months, 5.23%, below 5.35% of the previous 12 months. In July 2024, the index changed by 0.38%.

Food and beverages recorded a negative change (-0.27%) from June to July, as well as Wearing apparel (-0,54%) and Communication (-0.09%). The other groups of services surveyed ranged between 0.91% of Housing and 0.02% of Education.

In July,Housing recorded an increase of 0.91% driven by the change of 3.04% residential electricity, the subitem accounting for the biggest individual impact on the monthly index (0,12 p.p.). The hike reflects the price adjustment of 13.97% in one of the concessionaires in São Paulo(10.56%) in effect since July 04; 1.97% in Curitiba(2.47%) since June 24; 14.19% in one of the concessionaires in Porto Alegre (1,48%) starting on June 19 and a drop of 2.16% in the fares of one of the concessionaires of Rio de Janeiro (0.71%) since June 17. It is worth pointing out that, in July, the red tariff flag level 1 remained in effect, adding R$4.46 to the light bill per each 100 KWh consumed.

Residential electricity has a cumulative increase of 10.18% in the year, main individual impact (0.39 p.p.) on the cumulative result of IPCA (3.26%). This change (10.18%) is the highest for January-July since 2018 when the cumulative index was 13.78%.
Also in Housing, water and sewage rate (0.13%) covered the following proce adjustments: 4.97% in Salvador (2.16%) since July 18; 9.88% in Brasília (0.57%) since June 1; and 4.76% in Rio Branco (0.14%) since May 1, granted in a staggered manner between the months of May and June.
With the second biggest change and impact in July, the increase in Personal expenses (0.76% and 0.08 percentage points) was driven by the adjustment, in effect since July 9, in gambling (11.17% and 0.05 percentage points).
In the Health and personal care group (0.45%), the increases in personal hygiene items (0.98%) and health insurance (0.35%) stand out, reflecting the incorporation of the adjustments authorized by the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS). For plans contracted after Law No. 9,656/98, the percentage is up to 6.06%, effective from May 2025 and whose cycle ends in April 2026. For plans contracted before Law No. 9,656/98, the authorized percentages were 6.47% and 7.16%, depending on the plan.
Transportation accelerated from June (0.27%) to July (0.35%), driven by the rise of airfares (19.92% and 0.10 percentage points). Fuels, in turn, fell 0.64% in July, with drops in the prices of ethanol (-1.68%), diesel fuel (-0.59%), gasoline (-0.51%), and vehicle gas (-0.14%).
Also relevant is the impact of free fares on Sunday and on holidays on the subway (0.16%) in Brasília (2.80%), and on urban buses (0.46%) in Brasília (2.80%) and Belém (6.68%), as well as the fare reduction on Sundays and holidays in Curitiba (2.94%). Also, taxi fares (0.21%) incorporate the average 8.71% fare increase in Belo Horizonte (2.05%), in effect since June 7.
In Wearing apparel (-0.54%), the decline in female wear (-0.98%) and in male wear (-0.87%) stood out.
Food and beverages, which accounts for the main share of the index, saw a decline (-0.27%) in average prices for the second consecutive month (in June, the change was -0.18%). The drop in July was driven by food at home, which fell 0.69% from June to July, with notable declines in potatoes (-20.27%), onions (-13.26%), and rice (-2.89%).
Food away from home recorded a change of 0.87% in July, against 0.46% in June. The subitem snacks accelerated from 0.58% in June to 1.90% in July, and meals went from 0.41% in June to 0.44% in July.
As for regional indexes, São Paulo recorded the biggest change (0.46%) due to airfares (13.56%) and residential electricity (10.56%). The smallest change was found in Campo Grande (-0.19%) due to the drop in potatoes (-33.84%) and in residential electricity (-1.39%).

The IPCA has been calculated by the IBGE since 1980. It refers to households with monthly income of 1 to 40 minimum wages, whatever the source and encompasses ten metropolitan areas in Brazil, besides the municipalities of Goiânia, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, São Luís, Aracaju and Brasília..
In order to estimate the index of the month, the prices collected from July 01 to July 30, 2025 (reference) were compared with those in force from May 30 to June 30, 2025 (base).
INPC tem alta de 0,21% em julho
O Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor (INPC) teve alta de 0,21% em julho. No ano, o acumulado é de 3,30% e, nos últimos 12 meses, de 5,13%, abaixo dos 5,18% observados nos 12 meses imediatamente anteriores. Em julho de 2024, a taxa foi de 0,26%.
Os produtos alimentícios passaram de -0,19% em junho para -0,38% em julho. A variação dos não alimentícios passou de 0,37% em junho para 0,41% em julho.
Quanto aos índices regionais, a maior variação (0,56%) ocorreu em São Paulo por conta da energia elétrica residencial (10,61%) e do conserto de automóvel (2,94%). A menor variação ocorreu em Campo Grande (-0,27%) em razão da queda na batata-inglesa (-33,84%) e na energia elétrica residencial (-1,37%).

O INPC é calculado pelo IBGE desde 1979, se refere às famílias com rendimento monetário de 01 a 05 salários mínimos, sendo o chefe assalariado, e abrange dez regiões metropolitanas do país, além dos municípios de Goiânia, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, São Luís, Aracaju e de Brasília. Para o cálculo do índice do mês, foram comparados os preços coletados no período de 01 de julho de 2025 a 30 de julho de 2025 (referência) com os preços vigentes no período de 30 de maio de 2025 a 30 de junho de 2025 (base).
