In July, industry drops in three of the 15 areas surveyed

In June 2024, national industrial production dropped by 1.4% from June, in the seasonally adjusted series, with three of the 15 areas surveyed recording negative rates. Pará (-3.8%), Bahia (-2.3%) and São Paulo (-1.8%) recorded the main negative results.

The biggest increases came from Amazonas (6.9%) and Espírito Santo (5.8%). Paraná (4.4%), Pernambuco (4.2%), Northeast Region (3.0%), Minas Gerais (2.1%), Ceará (1.9%), Mato Grosso (1.8%), Rio de Janeiro (1.4%), Santa Catarina (1.3%), Goiás (1.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.8%) complete the group of areas with positive indexes in July 2024.

The quarterly moving average changed by 0.4% and recorded positive results in nine of the 15 areas surveyed, the main ones being Pará (6.1%), Paraná (2.1%), Minas Gerais (0.7%), Santa Catarina (0.7%) and Northeast Region (0.6%). On the other hand, Pernambuco (-1.6%), Goiás (-0.7%) and Amazonas (-0,7%) recorded the main drops in July 2024.

Against the same month a year ago, industry increased by 6.1% in July 2024, with positive results in 14 of the 18 areas surveyed. The main increases were found in Paraná (14.1%), Amazonas (12.0%), Santa Catarina (11.8%), Pará (11.6%) and Ceará (10.5%).

As for the cumulative index in 2024, the increase of 3.2% was driven by positive results in all the 18 areas surveyed: Rio Grande do Norte (19.7%) recorded the two-digit and highest cumulative increase in the seven months of 2024.

In July, only three of the 15 areas surveyed recorded negative rates, in the seasonally adjusted series: Pará (-3.8%), Bahia (-2.3%) and São Paulo (-1,8%). Pará decreases again after increases in the months of June and May 2024, a period which had a cumulative increase of 25.3%; Bahia had a cumulative drop of 7.9% in two consecutive months with a decrease in production; and São Paulo interrupted three consecutive months of positive rates, a period marked by an advance of 4.1%.

On the other hand, Amazonas (6.9%) and Espírito Santo (5.8%) recorded the biggest increases in the month, with the former making up for the cumulative loss of 8.3% relative to June and May 2024; and the second one intensified the pace of increase against the previous month (3.4%). Paraná (4.4%), Pernambuco (4.2%), Northeast Region (3.0%), Minas Gerais (2.1%), Ceará (1.9%), Mato Grosso (1.8%), Rio de Janeiro (1.4%), Santa Catarina (1.3%), Goiás (1.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.8%) completed the group of areas with positive results in July 2024.

The quarterly moving average index for industry recorded a positive change of 0.4% in the quarter ended July 2024 against the level of a month ago and had remained on an upward trend since August 2023. Nine of the 15 areas surveyed recorded positive rates in the month, with a highlight to  the advances of Pará (6.1%), Paraná (2.1%), Minas Gerais (0.7%), Santa Catarina (0.7%) and Northeast Region (0.6%).

On the other hand, Pernambuco (-1.6%), Goiás (-0.7%) and Amazonas (-0.7%) recorded the main drops in July 2024.

Against July 2023, industry recorded an increase of 6.1% in July 2024, with positive results in 14 of the 18 areas surveyed. It is worth of mention that 2024 (23 days) had two business days more than the previous year (21). Paraná (14.1%), Amazonas (12.0%), Santa Catarina (11.8%), Pará (11.6%) and Ceará (10,5%) recorded two-digit increases and te highest in the month.

Rio Grande do Sul (8.4%) also recorded a positive rate above the national average (6.1%), whereas São Paulo (5.4%), Rio Grande do Norte (5.1%), Northeast Region (3.9%), Minas Gerais (3.8%), Rio de Janeiro (3.8%), Pernambuco (3.2%), Bahia (2.6%) and Espírito Santo (0.6%) completed the group of areas with an increase in production in the Monthly index of July 2024.

On the other hand, Mato Grosso (-2.2%), Maranhão (-1.9%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (-1.6%) recorded the main drops in the month. Goiás, with a negative change of 0.5%, also recorded a negative result in the month.

In the comparison of the first four quarters of 2024 with the period May-July 2024, both comparisons against the same period a year ago, eleven of the eighteen areas surveyed recorded loss of dynamism, following, thus, the movement of the national total, which changed from 3.5% to 2.7%. In regional terms, Espírito Santo (from 6.1% to -4.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (from 5.2% to -5.2%), Rio Grande do Norte (from 24.3% to 14.3%), Goiás (from 10.8% to 1.9%), Mato Grosso (from 7.0% to -1.7%) and Amazonas (from 5.8% to 0.0%) recorded the main drops, whereas Pará (from -1.7% to 7.2%), Paraná (from 0.7% to 6.3%) and Maranhão (from 1.6% to 7.0%) had the main increases between the two periods.

In the cumulative indicator in the year, against the same period a year ago, industry increased by 3.2%, with positive results in 18 areas surveyed. Rio Grande do Norte (19.7%) had a two-digit increase and the biggest in the cumulative index for the seven months of 2024.

Ceará (7.6%), Santa Catarina (6.5%), Goiás (6.1%), Rio de Janeiro (4.9%), São Paulo (4.7%), Maranhão (3.9%) and Amazonas (3.4%) also had positive rates above the national average (3.2%), whereas Paraná (3.2%), Pará (2.6%), Mato Grosso do Sul (2.6%), Mato Grosso (2.5%), Bahia (2.4%), Pernambuco (2.2%), Minas Gerais (1.5%), Espírito Santo (1.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (0.4%) and Northeast Region (0.3%) completed the group of areas with increase in production of the cumulative index in the year.

The cumulative index in the last 12 months, having advanced 2.2% in July 2024, kept its positive rate and intensified the pace of increase Against the results of June (1.5%) and May 2024 (1.2%).

In regional terms, 16 of the 18 areas surveyed had positive rates in July 2024, but only 12 recorded more dynamism against the indexes of last June. Amazonas (from -1.5% to 0.4%), Paraná (from 3.6% to 5.1%), Pará (from 3.2% to 4.6%), Ceará (from 1.3% to 2.6%), Santa Catarina (from 3.4% to 4.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (from -2.3% to -1.2%), Mato Grosso do Sul (from 0.5% to 1.6%) and São Paulo (from 1.6% to 2.5%) recorded the main increases between June and July 2024, whereas Rio Grande do Norte (from 22.8% to 19.0%), Espírito Santo (from 11.5% to 9.0%) and Mato Grosso (from 6.2% to 5.1%) recorded the main drops between the two periods.
