Cattle, pigs and hogs, and chicken slaughter grow over the same period in the previous year
The first results of livestock production in the second quarter of 2024 showed that cattle slaughter increased 17.2%, slaughter of hogs and pigs increased 2.4% and that of chicken rose 3.2% against the second quarter in 2023.
Compared with the first quarter of 2024, cattle slaughter increased 6.9%, that of hogs and pigs, 4.3% and that of chicken, 1.1%.
Acquisition of raw milk in the second quarter of 2024 reached 5.81 billion liters, an increase of 0.4% in relation to the second quarter of 2023 and a drop of 6.3% against the first quarter of 2024.
Acquisition of rawhide by tanneries rose 17.0% against the second quarter of 2023 and increased 8.2% against the first quarter of 2024, adding up to 10.08 million rawhide pieces.
1.15 billion dozen of hen eggs were produced in the second quarter this year, a rise of 9.1% in the comparison with the second quarter of 2023 and of 5.0% in relation to the first quarter of 2024.
The final data of animal slaughter will be released on September 5.

Cattle slaughter rises 17.2% in relation to Q2 2023
In the second quarter of 2024, 9.94 million cattle head under some sort of sanitary inspection were slaughtered. That amount represented a positive change of 17.2% compared with the second quarter of 2023 and an increase of 6.9% in relation to the first quarter of 2024.
The production of 2.57 million tonnes of cattle carcasses in the second quarter of 2024 represented an increase of 17.0% in relation to the same quarter in 2023 and a drop of 7.3% in relation to the first quarter of 2024.
Hogs and pigs slaughter rises 2.4% in relation to the second quarter of 2023
14.55 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered in the second quarter of 2024, representing an increase of 2.4% in relation to the second quarter of 2023 and of 4.3% over the first quarter of 2024.
The cumulative weight of hogs and pigs carcasses was of 1.34 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2024, an increase of 0.9% compared with the second quarter of 2023 and of 4.8% in relation to the first quarter of 2024.
Chicken slaughter increases 3.2% over Q2 2023
In the second quarter of 2024, 1.61 billion chicken head were slaughtered, accounting for an increase of 3.2% against the same period in 2023 and of 1.1% in relation to the first quarter of 2024.
The cumulative weight of carcasses was of 3.43 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2024. This figure represented increases of 2.1% over the second quarter of 2023 and of 1.9% against the first quarter of 2024.
Milk acquisition rises 0.4% compared with the same period in 2023
In the second quarter of 2024, the acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some sort of sanitary inspaection was of 5.81 billion liters.
The value corresponded to an increase of 0.4% in comparison with the volume recorded in the second quarter of 2023 and a reduction of 6.3% in relation to that obtained in the first quarter of 2024.
Acquisition of leather grows 17.0% in relation to Q2 2023
In the second quarter of 2024, the tanning houses investigated in the Quarterly Survey of Leather reported to have received 10.08 million whole cattle rawhide.
That amount represented an increase of 17.0% compared with that recorded in the second quarter of 2023 and of 8.2% against the first quarter of 2024.
Production of hen eggs rises 9.1% over the same period in 2023
The production of hen eggs added up to 1.15 billion dozen in the second quarter of 2024. That value represented an increase of 9.1% in relation to the same period a year ago and of 5.0% against the first quarter in 2024.
