Slaughter of cattle, chickens and hogs and pigs grows in Q3 2023

Compared to the same quarter in 2022, cattle slaughter grew 11.1%, chicken slaughter increased 3.1% and the slaughter of hogs and pigs increased 0.5%. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023, cattle slaughter increased by 5.8%, chicken slaughter increased by 1.4% and the slaughter of hogs and pigs increased by 3.7%.
Purchased milk amounted to 6.20 billion liters, 0.8% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and 8.4% above that obtained in the previous quarter. The acquisition of leather pieces by tanneries grew 6.6% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and 3.0% compared to the previous quarter, totaling 8.63 million whole pieces of rawhide. The number of hen eggs produced totaled 1.06 billion dozen in the 3rd quarter of this year, with increases of 1.9% in the year and 1.0% in the quarter.

Cattle slaughter rises 11.1% in the year and 5.8% in the quarter
In the 3rd quarter of 2023, 8.85 million heads of cattle were slaughtered under some type of health inspection. This amount represented an increase of 11.1% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and an increase of 5.8% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
The production of 2.36 million tonnes of cattle carcasses in the 3rd quarter of 2023 consisted of increases of 8.9% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and 8.6% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
Chicken slaughter grows 3.1% in the annual comparison and 1.4% in the quarterly comparison
In the 3rd quarter of 2023, 1.58 billion chicken heads were slaughtered. This result meant an increase of 3.1% compared to the equivalent quarter of the previous year and an increase of 1.4% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
The cumulative weight of carcasses was 3.31 million tonnes in the 3rd quarter of 2023. This total meant an increase of 3.4% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and a reduction of 1.3% compared to the previous quarter.
Slaughter of hogs and pigs increases by 0.5% in the year and 3.7% in the quarter
Slaughter of hogs and pigs totaled 14.60 million head in the 3rd quarter of 2023, with increases of 0.5% compared to the same quarter of 2022 and 3.7% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
The cumulative weight of carcasses registered 1.37 million tonnes in the 3rd quarter of 2023, an increase of 2.4% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and an increase of 3.9% compared to the previous quarter.
Milk acquisition rises 0.8% year-on-year and 8.4% compared to the previous quarter
The acquisition of raw milk made by establishments that operate under some type of health inspection (federal, state or municipal), in the 3rd quarter of 2023, was 6.20 billion liters. The value corresponded to an increase of 0.8% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and an increase of 8.4% compared to that obtained in the previous quarter.
Leather acquisition increases by 6.6% in the year and 3.0% in the quarter
The tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Leather Survey – those that tan at least 5,000 whole units of raw bovine hide per year – declared having received 8.63 million whole pieces of raw bovine hide in the 3rd quarter of 2023. This amount represents an increase of 6.6% compared to that recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and an increase of 3.0% compared to the previous quarter.
Hen egg production grows 1.9% in the year and 1.0% in the quarterly comparison
The production of hen eggs was 1.06 billion dozen in the 3rd quarter of 2023. The result represented increases of 1.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and 1.0% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
