Industry retreats in 6 of 15 places surveyed in November

With the negative change of 0.1% in the national industry in November 2022 in the seasonally-adjusted series, six out of 15 areas surveyed by the IBGE recorded negative rates, being the more intense in Pará (-5.2%). The other retreats were registered in Pernambuco (-2.0%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.3%), Northeast Region (-1.3%), Rio de Janeiro (-0.9%) and Goiás (-0.3%).
Paraná (8.5%) and Espírito Santo (7.6%) reported the highest rises in November, followed by Ceará (4.3%), Mato Grosso (3.8%), Bahia (3.5%), São Paulo (3.1%), Minas Gerais (2.2%), Santa Catarina (0.3%) and Amazonas (0.1%).
Industry grew 0.9% over November 2021, with positive rates in five out of 15 places surveyed. The quarterly moving average (-0.2%) retreated in 12 out of 15 places.
The cumulative index in the year, in relation to 2021, was negative in eight out of 15 places, highlighted by Pará (-8.9%) and Espírito Santo (-7.2%). In terms of the cumulative index in the last 12 months, nine out of 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates.

In the seasonally-adjusted series, six out of 15 places surveyed registered negative rates, highlighted by Pará (-5.2%), which offset the advance of 5.0% recorded in the previous month. Pernambuco (-2.0%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.3%), Northeast Region (-1.3%), Rio de Janeiro (-0.9%) and Goiás (-0.3%) registered negative rates in November as well.
On the other hand, Paraná (8.5%) and Espírito Santo (7.6%) reported the most significant growth rates this month, both of them interrupting five consecutive months of retreats in the output, a period in which they accumulated losses of 16.3% and 20.6%, respectively. Ceará (4.3%), Mato Grosso (3.8%), Bahia (3.5%), São Paulo (3.1%), Minas Gerais (2.2%), Santa Catarina (0.3%) and Amazonas (0.1%) recorded the other positive figures this month.
Still in the seasonally-adjusted series, the quarterly moving average for the overall industry changed -0.2% in the quarter ended in November 2022 over the previous month, after also declining in October (-0.4%), September (-0.3%) and August (-0.2%) 2022. In the seasonally-adjusted series, 12 out of 15 places surveyed registered negative rates, highlighted by Amazonas (-3.8%), Mato Grosso (-3.0%), Santa Catarina (-2.1%), Northeast Region (-1.9%), Paraná (-1.8%), Ceará (-1.6%) and Pará (-1.4%). In contrast, Minas Gerais (0.9%) and São Paulo (0.2%) recorded the advances in November 2022.
In the comparison with November 2021, the industrial sector grew 0.9% in November 2022, showing positive figures in five out of 15 places surveyed. It is worth mentioning that November 2022 (20 days) had the same number of business days as the same month a year ago (20). In this month, São Paulo (7.3%) and Rio de Janeiro (6.0%) reported the most significant expansions. Minas Gerais (4.7%), Goiás (4.2%) and Amazonas (1.8%) also recorded higher positive rates than the national average (0.9%).
Conversely, Pará (-16.5%), Espírito Santo (-12.2%) and Paraná (-9.8%) registered the highest reductions in November 2022.
In the cumulative index in 2022 against the same period in 2021, the reduction reported in the national output reached eight out of 15 places surveyed, highlighted by Pará (-8.9%) and Espírito Santo (-7.2%). Ceará (-5.0%), Santa Catarina (-4.2%), Paraná (-3.8%), Pernambuco (-2.3%) and Minas Gerais (-0.9%) also registered higher negative rates than the national average (-0.6%), whereas the Northeast Region (-0.5%) was the other place that reduced the production in the cumulative index in the year.
Mato Grosso (21.3%) recorded the highest advance in the cumulative index in the year. Rio de Janeiro (4.4%), Amazonas (4.2%), Bahia (3.4%), Goiás (2.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (1.1%) and São Paulo (0.1%) reported the other positive rates in the period.
Having declined 1.0% in November 2022, the cumulative indicator over the last 12 months reduced the pace of loss compared with the months of October (-1.4%), September (-2.3%), August (-2.7%) and July (-3.0%) 2022. In regional terms, nine out of 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates in November 2022 and nine showed higher dynamism against the index of last October 2022.
Amazonas (from 2.6% to 4.1%), São Paulo (from -1.7% to -0.4%), Bahia (from 1.1% to 2.2%) and Goiás (from 2.0% to 2.6%) were the major gains between October and November 2022, whereas Mato Grosso (from 25.0% to 21.6%), Pará (from -7.4% to -8.9%), Paraná (from -2.5% to -3.3%) and Espírito Santo (from -6.0% to -6.7%) registered the biggest losses.
