In October, industry advances in six of the 15 locations surveyed

With a positive change of 0.3% in national industry, from September to October 2022, in the seasonally-adjusted series, six of the 15 areas surveyed by the IBGE showed positive rates, with a highlight to Pará (5.2%) and Goiás ( 3.0%). Minas Gerais (1.7%), Rio de Janeiro (1.1%), Rio Grande do Sul (0.5%) and São Paulo (0.4%) were also positive.
Ceará (-13.7%) and Mato Grosso (-11.5%) were the areas with the most intense reductions in October. Paraná (-9.1%), Amazonas (-8.2%), Northeast Region (-5.7%), Espírito Santo (-5.3%), Pernambuco (-4.8%), Bahia (- 4.6%) and Santa Catarina (-1.8%) complete the list of negative results for the month.
Compared to October 2021, the industry grew by 1.7%, with positive rates in seven of the 15 areas surveyed. The quarterly moving average (-0.4%) retreated in eleven of the 15 locations.
The cumulative index in the year was negative in eight of the 15 areas, with a highlight to Pará (-8.1%) and Espírito Santo (-6.7%). The cumulative index in 12 months had negative rates in nine of the 15 places surveyed.

In the seasonally adjusted series, six of the fifteen areas surveyed had positive rates, with highlight to Pará (5.2%), which interrupted two consecutive months of decline in production, a period in which it accumulated a decrease of 9.3%, and Goiás (3.0%), which eliminated the loss of 2.6% registered in September. Minas Gerais (1.7%), Rio de Janeiro (1.1%), Rio Grande do Sul (0.5%) and São Paulo (0.4%) also recorded positive rates in October.
On the other hand, Ceará (-13.7%) and Mato Grosso (-11.5%) registered the highest reductions in that month, with the first place eliminating the 5.1% growth seen in the previous month; and the second intensifying the fall of 1.3% registered in September. Paraná (-9.1%), Amazonas (-8.2%), Northeast Region (-5.7%), Espírito Santo (-5.3%), Pernambuco (-4.8%), Bahia (- 4.6%) and Santa Catarina (-1.8%) also had a decline in production.
The quarterly moving average was -0.4% in the quarter ended in October 2022 compared to the level of the previous month, after retreating in September (-0.3%) and August (-0.2%), when it interrupted the upward trend started in November 2021. Eleven of the fifteen areas surveyed had negative rates, with a highlight to Paraná (-4.9%), Espírito Santo (-4.3%), Santa Catarina (-4.1%), Mato Grosso (-3.5%), Ceará (-3.3%) and Bahia (-2.9%). On the other hand, Rio de Janeiro (1.5%), Goiás (0.7%) and Pernambuco (0.3%) recorded positive rates in October 2022.
Compared to October 2021, the national industrial sector increased by 1.7% in October 2022, with seven of the fifteen areas surveyed showing positive rates. In that month, Mato Grosso (15.8%) and São Paulo (7.7%) registered the sharpest expansions. Rio de Janeiro (6.5%), Minas Gerais (6.4%), Goiás (6.2%) and Amazonas (1.8%) also registered higher positive rates than the national average (1.7%), while Pernambuco (0.2%) completed the set of places with growth in production in that month.
Rio Grande do Sul had zero change (0.0%) and repeated the level observed in October 2021. On the other hand, Espírito Santo (-20.7%), Paraná (-14.5%) and Ceará (- 11.9%) showed double-digit reductions and Bahia (-7.2%), Northeast Region (-5.0%), Santa Catarina (-2.7%) and Pará (-2.3%) showed the other negative results in that month. It is worth mentioning that October 2022 (20 days) had the same number of working days as the same month of the previous year (20).
In the cumulative result for 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, the reduction of 0.8% in industry reached eight of the fifteen areas surveyed, with a highlight to Pará (-8.1%) and Espírito Santo (-6.7% ). The index accumulated in the year was also negative in Ceará (-4.6%), Santa Catarina (-3.9%), Paraná (-3.1%), Pernambuco (-2.0%), Minas Gerais (-1 .4%) and São Paulo (-0.6%).
On the other hand, Mato Grosso (24.5%) had the highest cumulative increase in the year. Amazonas (4.5%), Rio de Janeiro (4.2%), Bahia (4.2%), Goiás (2.0%), Rio Grande do Sul (1.5%) and Northeast Region (0. 2%) showed the other positive rates in the period.
The cumulative result for the last 12 months, having retreated 1.4% in October 2022, reduced the intensity of loss compared to the last 12 months of September (-2.3%), August (-2.7%) and July (- 3.0%). Nine of the fifteen locations surveyed recorded negative rates in October 2022, but eleven showed greater dynamism compared to the September 2022 indices.
Mato Grosso (from 23.1% to 25.0%), São Paulo (from -3.4% to -1.7%), Amazonas (from 1.3% to 2.6%), Goiás (from 0 .8% to 2.0%), Pará (from -8.5% to -7.4%), Minas Gerais (from -2.3% to -1.3%), Santa Catarina (from -5. 2% to -4.3%) and Pernambuco (from -3.4% to -2.6%) showed the main gains between September and October 2022, while Espírito Santo (from -4.3% to -6. 0%) and Paraná (from -1.6% to -2.5%) registered the biggest losses.
