In August, industry declines in 7 of the 15 surveyed locations

With the 0.6% decrease of the national industry from July to August 2022, in the seasonally adjusted series, 7 of the 15 places surveyed by the IBGE had negative rates, especially Pará (-6.2%), Santa Catarina ( -4.8%) and Espírito Santo (-3.9%). Bahia (-2.8%), Minas Gerais (-1.9%), Paraná (-1.5%) and Ceará (-0.8%) completed the set of places with negative indices in this month, while in Pernambuco the change was null (0.0%).

Amazonas (7.0%) and Rio de Janeiro (3.3%) had the highest increases in August. São Paulo (2.6%), Mato Grosso (2.1%), Goiás (1.8%), Northeast Region (1.1%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.1%) had the other positive results.

Compared to August 2021, the industrial sector showed growth of 2.8%, with ten of the 15 surveyed locations showing positive results. In the quarterly moving average, there was a decrease in eight of the 15 surveyed locations.

The cumultive index in the year was negative in eight of the 15 areas surveyed, with a highlight to Pará (-8.1%) and Ceará (-4.6%). In the cumulative result of the last 12 months, 12 of the 15 places surveyed had negative rates.

In the seasonally adjusted series, 7 of the 15 areas surveyed showed negative rates, especially Pará (-6.2%), Santa Catarina (-4.8%) and Espírito Santo (-3.9%), with the first place eliminating part of the gain of 15.2% accumulated in the months of June and July; the second interrupting four consecutive months of positive rates, a period in which it registered expansion of 8.9%, and the last one accumulating a loss of 12.6% in three consecutive months.

Bahia (-2.8%), Minas Gerais (-1.9%), Paraná (-1.5%) and Ceará (-0.8%) complete the set of places with negative indices in August 2022, while Pernambuco showed no change (0.0%).

The sharpest expansions were in Amazonas (7.0%) and Rio de Janeiro (3.3%), with the first place eliminating the loss of 4.0% accumulated in the months of June and July 2022; and the second intensifying the 1.3% expansion seen in the last month.

The other positive rates were in São Paulo (2.6%), Mato Grosso (2.1%), Goiás (1.8%), Northeast Region (1.1%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.1% ).

The quarterly moving average was -0.1% in the quarter ended in August 2022 compared to the previous month's level, interrupting the upward trend started in March this year. Eight of the fifteen areas surveyed showed negative rates in August, with a highlight to the sharpest declines in Espírito Santo (-4.4%), Bahia (-2.5%), Northeast Region (-1.8%), Ceará (-1.7%) and Paraná (-1.2%).

On the other hand, Pará (2.5%), Mato Grosso (1.1%), Amazonas (0.9%), São Paulo (0.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.6%) showed increases in August 2022.

In comparison with August 2021, the national industrial sector increased 2.8% in August 2022, with ten of the fifteen places surveyed showing positive rates. In the month, Mato Grosso (29.9%) and Amazonas (13.4%) had the sharpest double-digit expansions. Rio de Janeiro (6.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (6.3%), Northeast Region (6.0%), Pernambuco (5.0%), São Paulo (4.5%) and Goiás (4 .5%) also recorded positive rates higher than the national average (2.8%), while Bahia (1.3%) and Santa Catarina (0.7%) completed the set of places with growth in production in that same month .

The sharpest declines in August occurred in Espírito Santo (-12.2%) and Pará (-8.7%). The other negative results were in Ceará (-4.7%), Paraná (-2.2%) and Minas Gerais (-1.6%). It is worth mentioning that August 2022 (23 days) had one more business day than the same month of the previous year (22).

In the cumulative index of the year, compared to the same period of 2021, the reduction of -1.3% in the industry reached eight of the fifteen places surveyed, especially Pará (-8.1%) and Ceará (-4.6%). Espírito Santo (-3.7%), Pernambuco (-3.6%), Santa Catarina (-3.6%), Minas Gerais (-2.1%) and São Paulo (-1.7%) registered negative rates sharper than the national average (-1.3%), while Paraná (-1.0%) completed the set of localities with a decrease in production in the cumulative index in the year.

On the other hand, Mato Grosso (24.2%) accumulated the greatest increase in the year. Bahia (6.8%), Rio de Janeiro (3.8%), Amazonas (3.6%), Goiás (1.7%), Rio Grande do Sul (1.3%) and Northeast Region (0. 6%) showed the other positive rates in the same period.

The cumulative index in the last 12 months, by decreasing 2.7% in August 2022, reduced the intensity of loss compared to last July (-3.0%) and interrupted the downward trend started in August 2021 (7.2 %). In regional terms, 12 of the 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates in August 2022, but ten showed greater dynamism compared to the previous month's indices.

Mato Grosso (from 15.9% to 18.9%), Northeast Region (from -6.1% to -4.2%), Pernambuco (from -6.1% to -4.6%), Bahia ( from -1.9% to -0.5%), Amazonas (from -2.4% to -1.2%) and Goiás (from -1.1% to -0.2%) showed the main gains between July and August 2022, while Espírito Santo (from -1.6% to -2.9%), Paraná (from 0.0% to -0.9%) and Minas Gerais (from -0.8% to -1 .6%) marked the biggest losses between the two periods.
