In April, the National Civil Construction Index was 1.21%

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) was 1.21% in April, up 0.22 percentage points from the previous month's rate (0.99%). It was the highest rate since August 2021. In April 2021, the index was 1.87%. The index accumulated in the last twelve months was 15.00%, a result below the 15.75% registered in the previous twelve months. In the year, the cumulative result was 3.52%.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, was R$1,567.76 in April, R$944.49 of which related to materials and R$623.27 to labor force. In March, this national cost closed at R$ 1,549.07.

The share of materials, which had been showing rates below 1%, rose 1.86% in April, registering the biggest change since August 2021 and rising 1.38 percentage points from the previous month (0.48%). Considering the April 2021 index (3.14%), there was a drop of 1.28 percentage points.

Labor force, on the other hand, had a rate of 0.24%, falling 1.51 percentage points in relation to March (1.75%). Comparing with April of the previous year (0.18%), there was an increase of 0.06 percentage points.

From January to April 2022, the cumulative indexes closed at 3.79% (materials) and 3.12% (labor force). The cumulative indexes in twelve months were 19.71% (materials) and 8.53% (labor force), respectively.

Central-West region registers the highest monthly change

The Central-West Region, with significant increases in the share of materials in all states, had the highest regional change for the second consecutive month, 1.51%. The other regions showed the following results: 1.28% (North), 1.09% (Northeast), 1.13% (Southeast), and 1.43% (South).

The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$ 1,570.98 (North); R$ 1,468.90 (Northeast); R$ 1,624.46 (Southeast); R$ 1,637.91 (South) and R$ 1,572.30 (Central-West).

Paraíba registers the biggest increase

With an increase in the share of materials and readjustment observed in the professional categories, Paraíba was the state with the highest monthly variation (4.57%), followed by Rio Grande do Norte, with 3.64%, under the same conditions.

SINAPI, created in 1969, has the objective of producing information on costs and indices in a systematic way and with national coverage, aiming at the elaboration and evaluation of budgets, as well as monitoring of costs.
