Quarterly Livestock Surveys – first results – indicate decrease in slaughter of cattle and increase in slaughter of hogs, pigs and chicken in Q2 2021

The first results of the animal production in the 2nd quarter of 2021 indicate, compared to the 2nd quarter of 202, that cattle slaughter decreased 4.5%, whereas that of hogs and pigs increased 7.1% and that of chicken expanded 7.4%.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2021, cattle slaughter increased 7.7% and the slaughter of hogs and pigs increased 3.2%, while chicken slaughter fell 3.0%.

Milk acquisition was 5.80 billion liters, decrease of 1.2% in comparison with Q2 2020 and reduction of 11.5% compared to Q1 2021.

Conversely, the acquisition of rawhide pieces by tanneries increased 2.6% compared to the same quarter a year ago and 6.2% in relation to the previous quarter, totaling 7.51 million whole units of rawhide pieces.

In the 2nd quarter this year, 977 million dozen hen eggs were produced, an increase of 0.1% compared with Q2 2020 and reduction of 0.1% over Q1 2021.

Cattle slaughter falls 4.5% in annual comparison

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, 7.07 million cattle head were slaughter under some sanitary inspection service. This amount represented decrease of 4.5% over the 2nd quarter of 2020 and increase of 7.7% compared to the 1st quarter of 2021.

The production of 1.87 million metric tons of cattle carcasses in the 2nd quarter of represented a 1.9% retraction over the same quarter a year ago and increase of 8.6% over the rate of the 1st quarter of 2021.

Slaughter of hogs and pigs grows in both comparisons

The slaughter of hogs and pigs totaled 13.03 million head in the 2nd quarter of 2021, representing increase of 7.1% compared to the same quarter a year ago and of 3.2% compared to the 1st quarter of 2021.

The cumulative weight of carcasses recorded 1.22 million metric tons in the 2nd quarter of 2021, which is an increase of 9.5% in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2020 and of 5.2% in comparison with the previous quarter.

Chicken slaughter rises over last year

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, 1.52 billion chicken head were slaughtered. This result meant increase of 7.4% over the same period a year ago and retraction of 3.0%  in the comparison with the 1st quarter of  2021.

The cumulative weight of carcasses recorded 3.58 million metric tons in the 2nd quarter of 2021, which is an increase of 10.5% in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2020 and of 2.1% in comparison with the previous quarter.

Milk acquisition down in both comparisons

The acquisition of raw milk carried out by establishments under some king of sanitary inspection (municipal, state or federal) was of 5.80 billion liters in the second quarter of 2021. The amount corresponds to a 1.2% decrease over the volume recorded in Q2 2020 and a 11.5% drop compared to the previous quarter.

Leather acquisition up in both comparisons

The tanneries declared having received 7.51 million whole pieces of cattle rawhide in the 2nd quarter of 2021, which represents an increase of 2.6% compared to that registered in the 2nd quarter of 2020 and 6.2% in relation to the preceding quarter.

The tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Survey of Leather are those that tan at least five thousand whole units of cattle rawhide per year.

Hen egg production up in annual comparison

Hen egg production was 977.00 million dozens in Q2 2021, an increase of 0.1% compared to the same period last year and a decrease of 0.1% compared to Q1 of 2021.
