Quarterly livestock surveys - first results: cattle slaughter down, while slaughter of hogs, pigs and chicken up in Q1 2021 2021 (2)

The first results of animal production in the first quarter of 2021 indicate that the slaughter of cattle decreased 10.3%, that of hogs and pigs increased 4.9% and that of chickens increased 2.4% in relation to the same period of 2020. In comparison with the 4th quarter of 2020, the slaughter of cattle fell by 10.5%, while the slaughter of hogs and pigs grew 0.2% and that of chickens remained stable. The acquisition of milk was 6.52 billion liters, an increase of 1.3% in relation to the first quarter of 2020 and a fall of 3.3% against the previous quarter.

The acquisition of leather pieces by tanneries fell 6.6% compared to the first quarter of 2020 and was 8.0% lower than that of the fourth quarter of 2020, totaling 7.07 million whole pieces of rawhide.

An amount of 72.94 million dozen of hen eggs were produced in the first quarter this year, with decreases of 0.1% in the annual comparison and of 1.8% in relation to the previous quarter.

Slaughter of cattle falls 10.3% in the annual comparison and 10.5% compared to the previous quarter

In the 1st quarter of 2021, 6.54 million cattle head were slaughtered under some type of health inspection service. This amount represented negative changes of 10.3% compared to the 1st quarter of 2020 and 10.5% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020.

1.72 million tonnes of bovine carcasses were produced in the first quarter of 2021, with a decrease of 6.8% in relation to the same quarter of 2020 and a decrease of 12.7% in relation to the fourth quarter of 2020.

Slaughter of hogs and pigs grows 4.9% in the annual comparison and 0.2% compared to the previous quarter

In the first quarter of 2021, 12.53 million pig head were slaughtered, representing increases of 4.9% compared to the same period in 2020 and 0.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.

The cumulative weight of carcasses reached 1.15 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2021, with increases of 7.2% in relation to the first quarter of 2020 and of 2.5% compared to the previous quarter.

Chicken slaughter grows 2.4% in the annual comparison and remains stable in the quarter

The slaughter of chickens in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled 1.55 billion chicken head. This result meant an increase of 2.4% in relation to the equivalent quarter of the previous year and stability in comparison with the 4th quarter of 2020.

The cumulative weight of carcasses was 3.63 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2021. This total meant an increase of 4.3% in relation to the first quarter of 2020 and an increase of 1.6% compared to the previous quarter.

Acquisition of milk grows 1.3% in the annual comparison and falls 3.3% in the quarter

In the first quarter of 2021, the purchase of raw milk made by establishments under some type of sanitary inspection was 6.52 billion liters. There was an increase of 1.3% in relation to the 1st quarter of 2020 and a decrease of 3.3% compared to the previous quarter. Acquisition of leather is 6.6% below the 1st quarter of 2020

In the first quarter of 2021, the tanneries surveyed by the Quarterly Survey of Leather - those that tan at least five thousand whole units of raw cowhide per year - declared to have received 7.07 million whole pieces of rawhide. This amount represents a 6.6% decrease compared to the one recorded in the 1st quarter of 2020 and an 8.0% reduction in relation to the previous quarter.

Production of hen eggs falls 0.1% year-on-year and 1.8% compared to the previous quarter

In the first quarter of 2021, the production of hen eggs was 972.94 million dozen. The result represented a reduction of 0.1% in relation to the same quarter of 2020 and a decrease of 1.8% in comparison to the production of the 4th quarter of 2020.
