National Index of Civil Construction was 1.45% in March

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) was 1.45% in March, 0.12 percentage points above the February rate (1.33%). In the year, the index accumulated an increase of 4.84% and, in the last twelve months, of 14.46%, a result above the 13.22% registered in the previous twelve months. In March 2020, the index was 0.35%.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, which in February had closed at R$ 1,319.18, increased to R$ 1,338.35 in March, of which R$ 765.07 was related to materials and R $ 573.28 to labor force.

The share of materials increased by 2.20%, registering a decrease of 0.15 percentage points in relation to the previous month (2.35%). In relation to March 2020 (0.20%), there was an increase of 2.00 percentage points.

The share of labor force, with three collective bargaining agreements, presented a rate of 0.47%, increasing 0.45 percentage points in relation to February (0.02%). Comparing with March of the previous year (0.51%), there is a decrease of 0.04 percentage points.

The cumulative indexes in the year are 7.70% (materials) and 1.27% (labor force), while the cumulative indexes in twelve months are 24.61% (materials) and 3.23% (labor force), respectively.

Central-West had the greatest monthly change

With increase observed in the share of materials in all states and a collective agreement registered in Mato Grosso, the Central-West region had the greatest regional change in March, 1.93%. The other regions presented the following results: 1.06% (North), 1.53% (Northeast), 1.54% (Southeast), and 0.96 (South).

Regional costs, per square meter, were: R$ 1,331.86 (North); R$ 1,265.29 (Northeast); R$ 1,385.56 (Southeast); R$ 1,394.91 (South) and R$ 1,322.36 (Central-West).

Among the states, Mato Grosso had the highest monthly change, 3.56%, with an increase in the portion of materials and a collective agreement signed for the professional categories.

The National System of Costs Survey and Indexes of Construction – SINAPI a joint effort between the IBGE and Caixa Econômica Federal – CAIXA, aims at producing: monthly series of costs and indexes for the housing sector; monthly series of the average wages paid for labor; the average prices of construction materials, machinery and equipment; and services for the basic sanitation, infrastructure and housing sectors.

SINAPI statistics are essential in investment planning, especially for the public sector. Prices and costs help in the design, analysis and evaluation of budgets, while indexes allow updates in the expense amounts in contracts and budgets.
