Today (25) the IBGE publishes the 2020 Intermediate Mesh of Enumeration Areas in digital format, with the classification of enumeration areas as urban or rural, in order to meet the demands of territorial planning. Altogether, there are 448,988 enumeration areas, of which 344,142 are urban and 104,846 are rural. They represent the smallest territorial part used by the IBGE to plan and conduct its surveys.

Released for the first time in 2019, the product is compatible with scales from 1:5.000 to 1:250.000. All geospatial information can be found in SHP format to be used in different geographic information systems and in KML format, for viewing on the platform Google Earth.

The Mesh of Enumeration Area provided is independent from Population Censuses or Censuses of Agriculture, so it is considered intermediate and does not present statistical data on population and households. It brings the classification of enumeration areas as urban or rural in line with the political-administrative division of the Municipal Mesh. The information serves as a basis for planning at municipal, state and regional levels, as well as for surveys and business that require spatial components.

The product results from an extended comprehension of the different forms of human occupation in the national territory, having the analysis of changes in the territory as the main input for continuous updating, with high resolution images.
