In the seasonally-adjusted series, ten out of 15 places surveyed increased their industrial output between October and November. Eight of those rises were above the national average (1.2%): Bahia (4.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (3.8%) Amazonas (3.4%), the Northeast Region (2.9%), Santa Catarina (2.8%), Ceará (1.7%), Rio de Janeiro (1.6%) and São Paulo (1.5%). Paraná (1.2%) and Minas Gerais (0.6%) completed the list of places with positive indexes this month.

On the other hand, the steepest drops were registered in Pará (-5.3%) and Mato Grosso (-4.3%), as well as in Pernambuco (-1.0%), Espírito Santo (-0.9%) and Goiás (-0.9%).

The positive rates registered in ten out of 15 places surveyed reflected the upturn after downtime/interruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bahia (4.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (3.8%) and Amazonas (3.4%) recorded the steepest expansions, the first one growing once again after retreating last October (-0.1%); the second one accruing an expansion of 67.0% in the May-November 2020 period; and the third one offsetting the drop of 0.7% reported in the previous month.

The Northeast Region (2.9%), Santa Catarina (2.8%), Ceará (1.7%), Rio de Janeiro (1.6%) and São Paulo (1.5%) also registered more intense advances than the national average (1.2%), whereas Paraná (1.2%) and Minas Gerais (0.6%) completed the list of places that rose.

Among the drops, Pará (-5.3%) and Mato Grosso (-4.3%) recorded the most intense retreats this month, the former reporting the third consecutive month of drop in the output and accruing a reduction of 10.4% in this period; and the latter retreating once again, after growing 0.8% last October. Pernambuco (-1.0%), Espírito Santo (-0.9%) and Goiás (-0.9%) posted the other negative figures this month.

The quarterly moving average grew 1.7% in the quarter ended in November 2020 compared with the previous month, after also advancing in October (2.4%), September (4.8%), August (7.0%) and July (9.0%), when it interrupted the predominantly downward trend started in November 2019. This indicator remained positive in 11 out of 15 places surveyed, highlighted by the sharper advances registered in Paraná (4.5%), Santa Catarina (3.4%), Bahia (3.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (3.1%), Amazonas (2.7%), São Paulo (2.2%) and the Northeast Region (1.9%). On the other hand, Pará (-3.6%), Rio de Janeiro (-1.9%), Mato Grosso (-1.8%) and Goiás (-1.3%) retreated in November 2020.

In the comparison with the same month in the previous year, the industrial output grew 2.8% in November, showing positive figures in ten out of fifteen places surveyed.

Paraná (14.0%), Santa Catarina (11.1%) and Pernambuco (10.0%) posted the most intense advances. Rio Grande do Sul (8.7%), Amazonas (7.8%), Ceará (6.0%), Minas Gerais (5.2%), São Paulo (4.7%) and the Northeast Region (3.0%) also registered more intense advances than the national average (2.8%), whereas Bahia (1.0%) completed the list of places that increased the output in the monthly index of November 2020.

In contrast, Mato Grosso (-18.4%) recorded the highest decline this month. Rio de Janeiro (-7.0%), Pará (-4.6%), Goiás (-4.2%) and Espírito Santo (-3.9%) posted the other negative rates in November.

In the cumulative index in the year, compared with 2019, the reduction in the national output reached 12 out of 15 places surveyed, highlighted by Espírito Santo (-15.9%), Ceará (-8.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (-7.4%), Amazonas (-7.2%) and São Paulo (-7.2%). Santa Catarina (-6.1%), Bahia (-6.1%) and Mato Grosso (-5.8%) also registered steeper negative rates than the national average (-5.5%), whereas Minas Gerais (-4.8%), Paraná (-4.3%), the Northeast Region (-4.2%) and Pará (-0.4%) completed the list of places with dropping production in the cumulative index in the year.

Conversely, Pernambuco (3.2%) recorded the main advance in the cumulative index of January-November 2020. Rio de Janeiro (0.5%) and Goiás (0.4%) completed the list of places with an increase in the output in the cumulative index in the year.

The cumulative index in 12 months retreated 5.2% in November, reducing the pace of loss against October (-5.6%). Twelve out of 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates, though with ten less intense drops than in October. Espírito Santo (from -18.3% to -16.6%), Paraná (from -5.2% to -3.8%), Santa Catarina (from -6.8% to -5.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (from -8.1% to -7.0%), Pernambuco (from 1.8% to 2.9%) and Minas Gerais (from -6.7% to -5.6%) registered the major gains between October and November 2020, whereas Rio de Janeiro (from 2.6% to 0.8%), Mato Grosso (from -4.5% to -6.2%) and Goiás (from 1.1% to 0.1%) recorded the sharpest losses in the period.
