National Index of Civil Construction rises 1.71% in October

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) rose 1.71% in October, 0.27 percentage point above the rate of the previous month (1.44%) and the highest rate in 2020. The increase occurred in all states and was influenced by the significant increase in the share of materials. In the year, the index accumulates an increase of 6.13% and, in the last 12 months, of 6.48%, a result well above the 4.89% registered in the preceding 12 months. In October 2019, the index was 0.19%.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, which had closed at R$ 1,209.02 in September, increased to R$ 1,229.72 in October, of which R$ 666.03 were related to materials and R$ 644.38, to workforce.

The share of materials increased significantly in several segments and rose 3.17%, the highest rate in the Sinapi time series, which started in 2013. The observed increases were 0.62 percentage points in relation to the previous month (2.55%) and 2.92 percentage points compared to October 2019 (0.25%).

The share of workforce, with no increases observed, changed 0.04%, decelerating 0.16 percentage points in relation to the previous month (0.20%) and 0.07 percentage points compared to October 2019 (0.11 %).

The cumulative indexes in the year are 9.97% (materials) and 1.89% (workforce), and in twelve months, 10.01% (materials) and 2.55% (workforce).

Northeast has the highest monthly change

With an increase of 2.07% in the portion of materials, the Northeast had the greatest regional change in October. The highlights of this region were Sergipe (3.24%), Bahia (2.93%), Pernambuco (2.91%) and Alagoas (2.45%).

The other regions presented the following results: 1.86% (North), 1.52% (Southeast), 1.77% (South) and 1.17% (Central-West).

Regional costs per square meter were: R$ 1,243.85 (North); R$ 1,151.11 (Northeast); R$ 1,277.56 (Southeast); R$ 1,277.25 (South) and R$ 1,222.25 (Central-West).

Among the states, Sergipe had the highest monthly change for the second consecutive time, with 2.91% in September and 3.24% in October.

SINAPI, created in 1969, aims at producing cost and index information systematically and nationwide, for the preparation and assessment of price estimations, as well as for cost monitoring.
