National Index of Civil Construction changed by 0.30% in January

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed by 0.30% in January 2020, being 0.08 percentage points (p.p.) above the December 2019 rate (0.22%) and 0.12 p. p. below the figure recorded in January 2019 (0.42%). In the last 12 months, there was an increase of 3.91%, a result below the 4.03% registered in the previous 12 months.
The national cost of construction, by square meter, which closed 2019 at R$1,158,81, increased to R$1,162.24 in January, being R$609,39 relative to material, and R$552.85, to workforce.
Materials changed by 0.62%, havig increased 0.75 percentage points against the figure of December 2019 (-0.13%) and 0.43 p.p. against the same month a year ago (0.19%).
The share of workforce recorded a change of -0.06%, having decreased by 0.65 p. p. versus the rate in the last month of 2019 (0.59%). In a comparison of January with the previous year (0.68%), there was a more significant decrease, 0.74 percentage points, since January was marked by three collective bargaining agreements. However, no instance of such a negotiation was registered in the states in January 2020.
The cumulative result in twelve months rose by 4.99% in materials, whereas the share relative to the costs of workforce reached 2.71%.
North Region records highest monthly change
The North Region, with increases in materials registered in all the states, accounted for the biggest mothly change, 0.54%, in the first month of the year. The other regions recorded the following results: 0.46% (Northeast), 0.17% (Southeast), 0.05% (South) and 0.45% (Central-West).
The regional construction costs by square meter were R$$ 1,175.74 (North), R$1,072.56 (Northeast); R$1,210.88 (Southeast); R$1,223.27 (South) and R$1,171.04 (Central-West).
Among the states, Mato Grosso records the biggest decrease
Mato Grosso, with 1.39%, was the state that recorded the biggest monthly change, with a hike in the share of materials, influenced by Complementary State Law no.631/2019, which deals with changes in the charge of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Transportation and Communication Services (ICMS, in Portuguese) by the state.
