The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed 0.19% in October, down 0.18 percentage points (pp) compared to September, when it registered 0.37%. In October 2018, the index was 0.43%. Year-to-date, it was 3.69%. Sinapi recorded a result of 4.17% in the last 12 months, down from the 4.42% of the preceding 12 months.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, which in September closed at R$1,152.87, increased to R$1,155.01 in October, with R$ 605.40 related to materials and R$ 549.61 related to labor force.

The share of materials recorded change of 0.25%, maintaining the same index level of the previous month (0.27%). Comparing to October 2018 (0.69%), it presented decrease of 0.44 pp. The labor force share, with 0.11%, presented a significant fall, 0.36 pp, in relation to the previous month (0.47%).

Against October 2018 (0.16%), the decrease was smaller, 0.05 pp. From January to October, the cumulative indices are 4.50% (materials) and 2.81% (labor force), although, in 12 months, the indices were in 5.34% (materials) and 2.90% (labor force).

North Region record biggest monthly change

The North Region recorded the biggest change in October (0.97%), stimulated by the increase in the labor force share in Roraima and Pará. The Central-West changed 0.37%, while the South Region, 0.25%, the Southeast, 0.09% and the Northeast, -0.01%. The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$1,168.34 (North), R$1,064.44 (Northeast), R$1,204.23 (Southeast), R$1,220.73 (South) and R$1,158.31 (Central-West).

Pará boosts

The highest monthly change was recorded in Pará (1.95%), followed by Roraima, with 1.28%. The numbers were stimulated by the increase in the category costs due to the adjustments provided in collective agreements.
