The IBGE releases, today, updated maps of the 261 Brazilian municipalities that have underwent boundary changes in 2018. To see the maps, click here.

The update was based on analyses made by means of technical cooperation partnerships with state bodies aiming at the consolidation of data. The annual population estimated, produced by the IBGE, took into consideration the updated areas in each municipality. Those changes in territory distribution can be caused by a new state regulation on boundaries and/or cartographic adjustments officially announced by state bodies. 

The chart below presents the number of municipalities, by Federation Unit, which have undergone updates regarding relocation of population and/or significant adjustment in the cartographic representation of municipal boundaries.
