The IBGE puts out today the updated territorial areas of the Brazilian states and municipalities. See the full list here.
The reprocessing of the values of the territorial areas covers 5,568 municipalities, besides the Federal District and the State District of Fernando de Noronha, and is in accordance with the 2018 Municipal Mesh, which can be accessed here.
In this update, the highlight is the refinement of the reference line of the Brazilian coast and of some river boundaries between the states of Mato Grosso and Amazonas: Roraima with Amazonas; and Pará with Maranhão and Amazonas. Also of note is the rectified border between the Federal District and Goiás, in view of the studies conducted in a partnership between the IBGE and the respective state bodies.
The resizing of area values is also related to the evolution of the geotechnology applied to their calculation. It implies the periodic updating of the values of the state and municipal areas with the continued use of better techniques and production inputs. The changes in the values of the areas are also a result of territorial changes in the political-administrative limits determined by law or legal measures.
