Slaughter of cattle and pigs and hogs increases 0.4% over Q4 of 2017, in preliminary results of Q4

In the 4th quarter of 2018, the slaughter of bovine animals fell 2.3% in comparison with the previous quarter and grew 0.4% in relation to the same period of 2017. The slaughter of pigs and hogs also had decrease in relation of the previous quarter (-4.0%) and growth in comparison with the same period of 2017 (0.4%). Conversely, chicken slaughter decreased both in relation to the previous quarter (-0.7%) and  in relation to the fourth quarter of 2017 (-0.9%).

Milk acquisition increased in comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2018 (7.2%) and in relation to the 4th quarter of 2017 (2.5%). Leather acquisition fell 2.1% in relation to the previous quarter and rose 2.0% in comparison with the 4th quarter of 2017. The production of chicken eggs was the highest in the survey series (928.42 million dozens), representing rises of 1.0% over the 3rd quarter of 2018 and 8.2% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year.

These are preliminary result only for Brazil, with no disaggregation for Federation Units. The first results are made available nearly one month before the complete disclosure and can be altered in the following dissemination.

Chicken slaughter increases 0.4% over Q4 2017

In the 4th quarter of 2018, 8.09 million cattle head were slaughtered, registering a decrease of 2.3% over the previous quarter and an increase of 0.4% over the 4th quarter of 2017.

The production of 2.05 million metric tons of bovine carcasses in the 4th quarter of 2018 indicates a reduction of 2.7% in relation to the 3rd quarter this year and 0.9% over the 4th quarter of 2017.

Cattle slaughter increases 0.4% in the annual comparison

In the 4th quarter of 2018, 11,10 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered, representing a drop of 4.0% in relation to the previous quarter and an increase of 0.4% over the same period of 2017.

The cumulative weight of the carcasses reached 970.5 thousand metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2018, representing a fall of 6.4% over the previous quarter and of 1.5% over the same period in 2017.

Slaughter of chickens falls in both comparisons

In the 4th quarter of 2018, 1.42 billion chicken head were slaughtered. This result meant drops in relation to the previous quarter (-0.7%) and to the same period of 2017 (-0.9%). 

The cumulative weight of carcasses was of 3.34 million metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2018. This figure represented a retreat of 1.3% over the previous quarter and a drop of 0.5% compared with the same period in 2017.

Purchase of milk totals 6.71 billion liters

The acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection (either federal, state or municipal), in the 4th quarter of 2018, was of 6.71 billion liters. The value corresponded to an increase of 7.2% in comparison with the volume recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2018 and 2.5% in relation the 4th quarter of 2017.

Leather acquisition increases 2.0% in comparison with Q4 of 2017

The tanning houses investigated in the Quarterly Survey of Leather reported to have received 8.93 million whole cattle raw hides in the 4th quarter of 2018. That volume was 2.1% lower than the one recorded in the previous quarter and 2.0% higher than the one posted in the 4th quarter of 2017.

Hen eggs production is the biggest of the time series

The production of hen eggs was of 928.42 million dozens in the 4th quarter of 2018. The amount recorded was the biggest in the surveys time series, representing increases of 1.0% over the 3rd quarter of 2018, and of 8.2% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year.
