Quarterly surveys - first results: Cattle slaughter grows 3.6% compared to Q3 2017 and 7.2% against Q2 2018

In the third quarter of 2018, cattle slaughter totaled 8.28 million head, representing increases of 3.6% in relation to the third quarter of 2017 and 7.2% in relation to the second quarter of 2018. The slaughter of hogs and pigs totaled 11.52 million head, an increase of 4.4% over the same period of 2017 and 6.5% over the previous quarter. Chicken slaughter, in turn, totaled 1.42 billion head, down 4.0% in relation to the third trimester of 2017 and a 3.4% increase in relation to the previous quarter.

The acquisition of raw milk was 6.30 billion liters, a growth of 0.3% in relation to the third quarter of 2017 and an increase of 15.1% compared to the second quarter of 2018, a typical behavior of highs between the two periods, as seen in the time series. The acquisition of leather (8.93 million pieces of bovine rawhide) was 2.2% higher than that registered in the third quarter of 2017 and 8.6% higher than that registered in the previous quarter. Finally, the production of hen eggs totaled 911.63 million dozen, the highest volume in the time series, being 8.0% higher than the production of the same period of 2017. Compared with the previous quarter, there was an increase of 4.3%.

Cattle slaughter up 3.6% in relation to the same period of 2017

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, 8.28 million cattle head were slaughtered under some type of sanitary inspection service. This amount represents increases of 7.2% compared to the previous quarter and 3.6% compared to the third quarter of 2017.

The production of 2.10 million metric tons of bovine carcasses in the third quarter of 2018 indicates an increase of 11.0% over the second quarter of this year and an increase of 4.2% in relation to the third quarter of 2017.

Slaughter of hogs and pigs up 4.4% compared to Q3 of 2017

In the third quarter of 2018, 11.52 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered, representing increases of 6.5% in relation to the preceding quarter and 4.4% in comparison with the same period of 2017.

Cumulative carcass weight reached 1.04 million metric tons in the third quarter of 2018, representing increases of 5.9% in relation to the previous quarter and 4.9% in relation to the same period of 2017.

Chicken slaughter falls 4.0% in annual comparison

In the third quarter of 2018, 1.42 billion head of chickens were slaughtered. This result meant an increase of 3.4% in relation to the previous quarter and a decrease of 4.0% compared to the same period in 2017.

The cumulative carcass weight was 3.38 million metric tons in the third quarter of 2018. This result represented a drop of 0.1% in relation to the previous quarter and a decrease of 2.4% in relation to the same period in 2017.

Acquisition of milk grows 0.3% compared to same period of 2017

The purchase of raw milk made by establishments that operate under some type of sanitary inspection (federal, state or municipal) in the third quarter of 2018 was 6.30 billion liters. The figure corresponds to an increase of 15.1% compared to the volume registered in the second quarter of that year, following a typical behavior of high between the two periods, according to the time series. The estimate was also 0.3% higher than the amount of milk purchased in the third quarter of 2017.

Acquisition of leather increases 2.2% year-on-year

In the second quarter of 2018, tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Survey of Leather - those who tan at least 5,000 whole units of bovine rawhide per year - reported receiving 8.93 million pieces of leather in the third quarter of 2018, which is 8.6% higher than in the previous quarter and 2.2% higher than in the third quarter of 2017.

Egg production has record production for a third quarter

The production of hen eggs was 911.63 million dozens in the third quarter of 2018. Considering the time series, started in 1987, this was the highest production ever recorded in a third quarter, being 8.0% higher than the production of the same period in the previous year. The quantity recorded was also the highest in the survey series, representing an increase of 4.3% over the previous quarter.
