As part of the celebration of its 79th anniversary, the IBGE launches today, May 29, 2015, the 74th edition of the Brazilian Statistical Yearbook, for the year of 2014. This publication presents an overview of Brazil, including information on territorial, environmental, demographic and socioeconomic aspects, resulting from studies and surveys carried out by the IBGE and other institutions dedicated to the systematic understanding of this country. A CD-ROM is enclosed in the yearbook, including the information available in the printed volume and the retrospective of the last ten yearbooks published by the IBGE. The yearbook is on sales at the IBGE online store on link http://loja.ibge.gov.br. The digital file is available at the Library on link http://biblioteca.ibge.gov.br/biblioteca-catalogo?view=detalhes&id=720.

The yearbook is split into seven sections for easy access to the information. As one of the highlights, the first section, "Characterization of the Territory", gathers data unique to this publication, like the historic evolution of the Brazilian municipalities and borders indicating neighboring countries and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as detailed information of each municipality, like the straight line distance from the capitals.

This section also brings data on the natural resources and the environment, like the number of local units and the number of persons employed in the recycling activity.

Main survey results and indexes gathered and organized

The second section describes the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of the population, including results of the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), which brings data on education, migration and characteristics of households, among others. Concerning the agricultural production, forestry, silviculture, headcounts of livestock and aviculture, and animal production, the third section presents data on agricultural surveys, like the Survey of Stocks, the Municipal Agricultural Production and the Forestry Activities.

The industrial activity is portrayed in the fourth section, which gathers indexes on the production and sales, and data on electricity, gas and oil, among other information which can be found, for example, in the Annual Survey of Industry. The fifth section brings the results of surveys on trade, transportation, communication and other services, like the Annual Survey of Trade and the Annual Survey of Services. The sixth section deals with indexes, prices, costs and salaries in Brazil, bringing information, for example, of the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).

The yearbook also gathers macroeconomic, Public Finances, Monetary and Financial System, Foreign Sector and National Accounts data.

A glossary is included in each subject, describing the concepts investigated in the surveys and the references of the sources consulted. The subject index helps users to track the information and the reading guide helps the consultation of the yearbook.
