The IBGE launches today, September 9, 2015, the 2015 edition of the bilingual annual publication Brazil in Figures in an event at the Art Museum/Cultural Foundation of Blumenau (MAB), in Santa Catarina. The President of the IBGE, Wasmália Bivar, and the Director of Projects of the Department of Judicial Surveys of the National Council of Justice, Fernanda Paixão, will open the event. Brazil in Figures gathers a comprehensive set of data on the Brazilian environmental, social an economic reality from the IBGE´s surveys and other sources. This 23rd edition brings a new chapter on the Judicial Power. The launching ceremony of Brazil in Figures 2015 will be held at 8 PM at the Blumenau Art Museum (161 XV de Novembro Street, downtown, Blumenau, SC).
The publication can be accessed at the
Library or purchased at the IBGE Virtual Store.

The Brazil in Figures publication brings statistical information, knowledge and art together. Every chapter includes articles of renowned researchers, as well as tables and graphs with environmental, social and economic indicators, illustrated with images of paintings and sculptures belonging to the collection of the Blumenau Art Museum, which were created by foreign and Brazilian artists. The cover shows a painting of Roy Kellermann, picturing the old city hall of Blumenau.

The presentation brings a brief history of Brazil, followed by 22 thematic chapters on Territory, Population, Housing, Health, Social Security, Education, Labor and Political Participation. It also includes chapters on Prices, National Accounts, Agriculture, Industry, Energy, Trade, Transportation, Tourism, Communications, Public Finance, Foreign Trade, Science and Technology, Judicial Power and Environment. The chapters include the latest public statistics produced by the IBGE, as well as by the Brazilian Central Bank, regulatory agencies, federal ministries and public institutions.

Beginning this year, the publication brings a chapter dedicated to the Judicial Power. Produced in partnership with the National Council of Justice (CNJ), this chapter includes data and information produced by CNJ´s Department of Judiciary Surveys, which pictures the structure, litigiousness, human resources and expenses by justice court in Brazil.

In every edition, a museum is selected by the IBGE to illustrate the publication with images of pieces of art in the cover and in the beginning of every thematic session. The pieces of art are also reproduced in the promotional material like posters and folders, either printed or in electronic format on the IBGE website, thus contributing to the dissemination of these pieces. In the introduction of the publication, an opening text and a photograph introduce the selected museum, highlighting its history and main characteristics.

MAB is the first partner museum headquartered outside a capital. Known inside and outside the state of Santa Catarina, MAB aims at socializing art towards citizenship, an expectation shared by this publication.
