The IBGE launches today, May 31, 2016 at 10am at the João Caetano Theater (Tiradentes Square, Downtown, Rio de Janeiro), the 75th edition of the Brazilian Statistical Yearbook. At this occasion, the IBGE will celebrate its anniversary of 80 years. This publication refers to the year of 2015 and shows an overview of Brazil, including information on territorial, environmental, demographic and socioeconomic aspects resulting from studies and surveys carried out by the IBGE and other institutions dedicated to the systematic knowledge of Brazil. The printed version of the Yearbook is on sale at the IBGE´s virtual shop on link http://loja.ibge.gov.br. The digital version and the complementary files are available at the Library on link http://biblioteca.ibge.gov.br/biblioteca-catalogo?view=detalhes&id=720.

To facilitate the access to the information, the Yearbook is divided into seven sections. The first section, 'Characterization of the Territory', is one of the highlights. Its data are only systematized in this publication, like the historical evolution of the creation of the Brazilian municipalities, boundaries pointing out the neighboring countries and the Atlantic Ocean and detailed information on every municipality, like the straight-line distance from the capitals.

This section also brings data on natural resources and the environment, like the number of local units and persons employed in the recycling activity.

Results of major surveys and indexes gathered and organized

The second section deals with the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population, including results like those from the National Household Sample Survey – PNAD, which brings data on education, migration and characteristics of households, among others. Concerning the agricultural production, forestry, silviculture, livestock and aviculture headcount, and animal production, section three shows data from agriculture surveys, like the Survey of Stocks, the Municipal Agricultural Production and the Forestry Activities.

The industrial activity is pictured in the fourth section, which gathers indexes on production and sales, and data on electricity, gas and petroleum, among other information that can be found in the Annual Survey of Industry, for example. The fifth section brings results of surveys on trade, transportation, communications and other services, like the Annual Survey of Trade and the Annual Survey of Services. The sixth section deals with indexes, prices, costs and wages in Brazil, bringing, for example, information on the Extended National Consumer Price Index – IPCA.

The Yearbook also gathers macroeconomic data, and data on Public Finance, Monetary and Financial System, Foreign Sector and National Accounts.

Every subject includes a glossary with the concepts investigated in the surveys and standardized references of the sources used. The subject index helps the users to find the information and the reading guide helps to consult the Yearbook.
