Acquisition of milk by industry grows 8.4% in Q2 of 2014 over the same period of 2013

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, the acquisition of milk by the industry was of 5.785 billion liters, a rise of 8.4% over the 2nd quarter of 2013.

In that same period, the production of hen eggs was of 694.322 million dozens, a growth of 2.0%.

The slaughter of hogs and pigs increased 0.6% in relation to Q2 of 2013, whereas cattle and chicken slaughter reduced 0.2% and 2.7%, respectively.

In relation to slaughtering taking place under by some kind of sanitary inspection service, 8.517 million cattle head, 9.151 million hogs and pigs and 1.379 billion chickens were slaughtered.

The acquisition of entire cattle hides was of 9.125 million units, dropping 5.9% in relation to the same quarter of 2013.

Acquisition of milk increases 8.4% over Q2/2013

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, the acquisition of milk by the milk processing industries reached 5.785 billion liters, a rise of 8.4% over the 2nd quarter of 2013 and a decrease of 6.5% over the 1st quarter of 2014. The manufacturing process, on its turn, achieved 5.761 liters or 8.2% increase over the same period of 2013 and a 6.6% drop in relation to the volume registered in the 1st quarter of 2014.

Regionally, the Southeast was responsible for 41.0% of the national acquisition of milk, the South for 33.8% and the Central-West for 14.4% in the 2nd quarter of 2014. The Northeast of the country participated with 5.7% of the acquisition and the North, with 5.1%. Comparing with the 2nd quarter of 2013, there was a relative gain of participation in the Southeast, Northeast and Central-West Regions, whereas the South and the North recorded reduction.

Hen eggs production up 2.0% over Q2/2013.

The production of hen eggs was of 694.322 million dozens in the 2nd quarter of 2014. In relation to Q2 of 2013 and to Q1 of 2014 there were rises of 2.0% and 1.0%, respectively.

Comparing the 2nd quarter of 2014 with the same period of 2013, there was a growth in the production of hen eggs, mainly in the Southeast, driven by the great changes occurred in Espírito Santo and in São Paulo, though the other states in the Region were also on the rise. The Northeast also increased the production, pushed by Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco. The other Regions registered decrease in their productions of hen eggs. The major ones were seen in the Central-West Region, especially in Goiás. The South also shrank the production of hen eggs, leveraged by Santa Catarina.

Acquisition of leather decreases over Q2/2013

The acquisition of entire cattle hides was of 9.125 million units in the 2nd quarter of 2014, dropping 5.9% in relation to the same quarter of 2013 and remaining stable (-0.4%) in the comparison with the previous quarter.

The industrialization of cattle hides was of 9.113 million units, reflecting a drop of 5.2% in relation to the 2nd quarter of 2013 and stability (-0.6%) in relation to the 1st quarter of 2014. The main tanning method used was chrome (93.0%), whereas tannin was used in 4.4% of the cases and, in 2.6%, other methods were applied.

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, 39.5% of the total leather acquisitions were made by the Central-West Region; 20.8% by the South; 17.0% by the North; 15.2% by the Southeast and 7.4% by the Northeast. In terms of total hide purchase, Mato Grosso is a highlight with 17.5% of national contribution, followed by Mato Grosso do Sul (12.2%), São Paulo (10.6%) and Rio Grande do Sul (10.2%).

Cattle slaughter down 0.2% over Q2/2013

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, 8.517 million cattle head were slaughtered under some kind of sanitary inspection service. This figure was 0.2% lower than the one recorded in the 2nd quarter of 2013 and 1.8% higher than the one registered in the previous quarter.

The time series of the cumulative carcass weight by quarters follows the same pattern as the cattle slaughter series’. In the establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection, 2.006 million metric tones of cattle carcasses were produced. This figure was 2.8% lower than the one recorded in the previous quarter and 0.1% lower than that of the 2nd quarter of 2013.

At national level, the number of cattle head slaughtered in the 2nd quarter of 2014, in the comparison with the same quarter a year ago, presented the following highlights: Mato Grosso (-133.472 head), Rondônia (-52.597 head), Goiás (-34.320 head) and Mato Grosso do Sul (-21.951 head). However, part of the drop in those Federation Units were offset by the gains seen in Minas Gerais (+67.707 head), Maranhão (+50.166 head), Bahia (+30.201 head), Pará (+29.123 head) and Espírito Santo (+28.759 head).

Slaughter of pigs and hogs up 0.6%

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, 9.151 million pigs and hogs were slaughtered, representing increases of 0.6% in relation to the same quarter in 2013 and a rise of 5.3% in relation to the previous quarter. 

The cumulative carcass weight in Q2 2014 reached 797.708 thousand metric tons, representing a 6.7% increase in relation to the previous quarter. In relation to the same period of 2013, the result revealed stability (+0.01%).

The South Region accounted for 65.8% of the national slaughter of pigs and hogs in Q2 of 2014, followed by the Southeast (19.1%), Central-West (13.8%), Northeast (1.2%) and North Regions (0.1%).

Chicken slaughter shrinks 2.7%

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, there were 1.379 billion chicken head slaughtered, the third consecutive fall after the survey registered a top performance in the 3rd quarter of 2013. This result meant drops of 2.7% in relation to the same quarter in 2013 and of 1.2% in relation to the previous quarter.

Carcass cumulative weight was of 3.180 million metric tones in Q2 2014. This result represented a 1.1% rise over the same period of 2013 and a drop of 0.4% in relation to the previous quarter.

Comparing the two quarters of 2014/2013, there was a decrease in the volume of slaughtered animals in the South (-1.0%), Southeast (-5.0%) and Central-West Regions (-7.8%). Among those three main Brazilian Regions, in relation to the slaughtering results, the South Region was the only one to record contribution increase to the national added value, moving from 60.7% to 61.7%. Despite the contribution rise, the three states individually registered reduction in the number of slaughtered head.
