The deceleration of industrial output from October to November, in the seasonally adjusted series, was observed in nine of the fourteen areas surveyed. The main highlights among the areas were Goiás (-4.1%), which returned part of the cumulative advance of 6.7% relative to July-October, and Santa Catarina (-3.1%), which eliminated the gain of 2.1% recorded in October-August. Ceará (-1.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (-14%), Paraná (-0.7%), Amazonas (-0.4%) and São Paulo (-0.3%) also recorded decreases above the national average (-0.2%), whereas Pará (-0.2%) and Espírito Santo (-0.1%) complete the group of areas with negative rates this month. On the other hand, the Northeast Region (6.5%), Bahia (4.4%) and Pernambuco (3.0%) recorded the biggest increases in November 2013, whereas Minas Gerais (0.3%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.2%) had more moderate advances.

Considering the cumulative indicator in the year, national industry grew 1.4%, with hikes in 11 of the 14 areas surveyed. Recording results above the national average were: Rio Grande do Sul (6.3%), Paraná (5.7%), Goiás (4.6%), Bahia (4.6%), Ceará (3.7%), Santa Catarina (1.6%) and Amazonas (1.5%). To complete the group of areas with cumulative increase in 2013, we mention: São Paulo (1.4%), Northeast Region (1.1%), Rio de Janeiro (0.6%) and Pernambuco (0.2%).  In these areas, there was some influence from the growing output of capital goods and durable consumer goods, besides the bigger output of the subsectors of oil refining and ethanol production, textiles, footwear and leather articles and food products.

On the other hand, Espírito Santo (-6%) and Pará (-5.6%) recorded the most significant decreases, reflecting the smaller outputs of basic metals, food products and mining and quarrying industries, in the former, and basic metals, mining and quarrying industries and pulp, paper and paper products, in the latter.  Minas Gerais (-0.8%) also had a negative cumulative rate in the year

The cumulative result of the last twelve months , with expansion of 1.1% in November 2013, recorded slight increase over October (0.9%), but repeated the same one as in September (1.1%).  Eleven of the 14 areas surveyed recorded positive rates in November this year, and eight of them accelerated in relation to last October.  The main increased between October and November were observed in Paraná (from 0.4% to 2.5%), Goiás (from 3.2% to 4.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (from 3.4% to 4.6%) and Pernambuco (from -0.5% to 0.3%), whereas the most significant decreases came from Bahia (from 6.4% to 5.7%) and Santa Catarina (from 1.6% to 1.2%).

Also in the series with seasonal adjustment, the evolution of the quarterly moving average index for the industry overall had a positive change of 0.3% in the quarter which ended in November, over the previous month, after recording increase in October (0.4%), when the downward trend initiated last June was interrupted. In regional terms, also considering the marginal movement of this index, seven of the fourteen areas recorded positive rates, with Minas Gerais (-1.4%), Bahia (1.4%), Espírito Santo (1.2%) and Pará (0.8%) as the main highlights.  On the other hand, Santa Catarina (-0.8%), Pernambuco (-0.8%) and Amazonas (-0.6%) accounted for the main losses in the month.

In comparison with the same month a year before, in November 2013, there were increases in 14 areas surveyed. The most significant ones came from Paraná (12.2%), Goiás (9.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (8.3%). These areas were mainly influenced by the bigger dynamism of the subsectors: publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media, motor vehicles, food products, oil refining and ethanol production and machinery and equipment, in the first area; food products and beverages and chemicals, in the second one; and oil refining and ethanol production, machinery and equipment and motor vehicles, in the last one.  Pernambuco (3.2%), Pará (2.9%), Ceará (2.3%) and Bahia (0.9%) complete the group of areas which recorded increases above the national average (0.4%). Rio de Janeiro (-3.1%), Santa Catarina (-2.7%) and Amazonas (-2.2%) faced the biggest decreases, mainly due to retraction in: publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media, beverages, basic metals, other chemicals, mining and quarrying industries and motor vehicles, in the first area; machinery and equipment, in the second; and food products and beverages, publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media and medical, optical and other equipment, in the last one.  The other decreases were recorded by Espírito Santo (-0.9%), Minas Gerais (-0.6%), São Paulo (-0.6%) and Northeast Region (-0.3%).
