In the third quarter of 2013, cattle slaughter (8.91 million head) hit the record in the quarterly series for the second time in a row, registering an increase of 10.7% over the same quarter of 2012 and of 4.4% over the volume of the immediately previous quarter.

The production of bovine carcasses also hit a consecutive record (2.137 million tonnes), recording increases of 6.4% over the immediately previous quarter and of 11.4% over the third quarter of 2012.

The slaughter of pigs and hogs (9.35 million head) also set a record, by increasing 5.3% in relation to the immediately previous quarter and 0.6% in relation to the third quarter of 2012.

Chicken slaughter (1.44 billion head) hit a new record in the time series for the second time in a row, recording an increase of 1.1% over the second quarter and of 8.4% over the third quarter of 2012.

The purchase of raw milk added up to 5.99 billion liters, posting increases of 8.3% over the same period last year and of 12.1% in relation to the second quarter of 2013.

10.01 million units of rawhide were purchased in the first quarter of 2013, registering an increase of 3.3% over the previous quarter and of 11.0% over the third quarter of 2012.

The production of hen eggs was 692.01 million dozens, an increase of 1.3% over the third quarter of 2012 and of 1.8% over the second quarter of 2013.

Cattle slaughter hits its highest figure in the time series

In the third quarter of 2013, cattle slaughter in Brazil hit its second consecutive record in the quarterly series, by registering 8.913 million slaughtered head. This figure was 4.4% higher than the volume in the immediately previous quarter and 10.7% higher than that recorded in the third quarter of 2012.

The production of bovine carcasses also hit a consecutive record (2.137 million tonnes), recording increases of 6.4% over the immediately previous quarter and of 11.4% over the third quarter of 2012.

 Among the Major Regions, only the South Region did not increase the number of slaughtered cattle (-3.8%) in the comparison between the third quarter of 2013 and the same period last year. The changes were of approximately 14.4% in the North; 13.3% in the Central-West; 11.1% in the Southeast; and 9.9% in the Northeast. In the ranking of cattle slaughter by Federation Unit, Mato Grosso reaffirmed its leadership in the third quarter of 2013, by increasing in 21.9% the number of slaughtered head in relation to the third quarter of 2012.

Hogs and pigs slaughter increases 5.3% over Q2 2013

9.351 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered in the third quarter of 2013, representing a new record and an increase of 5.3% over the immediately previous quarter and of 0.6% in relation to the same period in 2012.

In the third quarter of 2013, the cumulative weight of the carcasses reached 900.488 thousand tonnes, representing an increase of 5.3% over the immediately previous quarter and of 0.4% against the same period in 2012.

The South Region accounted for 65.9% of the overall slaughter of hogs and pigs in the third quarter of 2013, followed by the Southeast (18.6%), the Central-West (14.3%), the Northeast (1.2%) and the North Region (0.05%). In the comparison between the third quarters of 2013 and 2012, the South Region posted an increase (+0.8%) in its participation, whereas the Central-West Region registered a reduction (-1.3%). Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná led the national ranking of hogs and pigs slaughter.

Chicken slaughter increases 8.4% over Q3 2012

1.444 billion head of chickens were slaughtered in the third quarter of 2013. It represented an increase of 1.1% in relation to the immediately previous quarter and of 8.4% over the same period in 2012, establishing the second consecutive record in the time series.

The cumulative weight of the carcasses was 3.191 million tonnes, establishing the second consecutive record since the beginning of the survey in 1997. This figure represented increases of 1.0% over the previous quarter and of 7.7% against the second quarter of 2012.

When compared with the second quarter of 2012, the figures of the third quarter of 2013 registered an increase from 58.8% to 60.3% in the overall participation of the South Region. Paraná was the leading state in the Brazilian ranking of chicken slaughtering. The Southeast was the second most important region in terms of slaughtering volume, despite the reduction of its participation from 21.7% to 20.4% in the same comparison.

Purchase of milk rises 12.1% over Q2 2013

5.989 billion liters of milk were purchased in the third quarter of 2013, representing an increase of 8.3% over the same period in 2012 and of 12.1% over the second quarter of 2013. 5.965 billion liters of the product were manufactured, recording positive percentage changes of 8.1% in relation to the third quarter of 2012 and of 12.0% against the second quarter of 2013. 

In the third quarter of 2013, the largest part of the product was purchased in the Southeast Region (40.1%), closely followed by the South Region (37.2%). The North and Northeast Regions participated with the same percentages: 5.0% each. Compared with last year, the North and Southeast Regions gained participation in the third quarter of 2013. The South Region posted a drop in its participation, while the other regions registered a slight fall, close to stability.

Purchase of rawhide rises 11.0% over Q3 2012

10.014 million units of rawhide were purchased in the third quarter of 2013. This figure represented an increase of 11.0% in relation to the volume purchased in the third quarter of 2012 and of 3.3% in relation to the second quarter of 2013. 10.032 million units of the product were tanned, which represented increases of 10.9% over the same period in 2012 and of 4.3% over the second quarter of 2013. The purchase of cattle ride was 12.4% higher than the official figure of cattle slaughtering in the third quarter of 2013.

Production of hen eggs grows 1.8% in Q3 2013 over Q3 2012

692.012 million dozens of hen eggs were produced in the third quarter of 2013, registering increases over the third quarter of 2012 (1.3%) and over the second quarter of 2013 (1.8%).

The regional participation of the production of hen eggs in the third quarter of 2013 was the following: 48.4% of the production was in the Southeast Region; 21.8% in the South; 13.8% in the Central-West; 13.5% in the Northeast and 2.5% in the North Region. Only the Southeast Region gained participation compared with the second quarter of 2013. The other Federation Units reported marginal decreases in their participation in the production of eggs. The comparison between the third quarters of 2013 and 2012 posted an increase in the production in the North (3.3%), Southeast (2.7%) and Central-West (5.2%) Regions.
