The evolution of the quarterly moving average of the national overall showed negative change of 0.4% in the quarter ended in November over the level of the previous month, and stopped the upward trend which started last July. In regional terms, still referring to the marginal index, eight of the 14 areas surveyed also recorded negative results in November, highlighting the decreases observed in Paraná (-2.4%), Pernambuco (-2.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.8%) and Goiás (-1.5%). On the other hand, the biggest increases were registered by Rio de Janeiro (0.9%), Espírito Santo (0.7%), Bahia (0.7%) and Minas Gerais (0.5%).

In the comparison with the same month in the previous year, the industrial output in Brazil decreased by 1.0% in November 2012, and reduction in production was observed in nine of the 14 areas surveyed. The most significant decreases this month were registered by Paraná (-13.4%) and Goiás (-10.1%), pressed largely by the negative behavior of the sectors of printing and reproduction of recorded media (books) and motor vehicles (trunks), in the former location, and chemicals (medicines) and food and beverages, in the latter. Espírito Santo (-8.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (-7.1%), Pernambuco (-5.1%), Pará (-4.3%), Amazonas (-3.7%) and Ceará (-1.4%) complete the group of six areas with decreases above the national average, whereas São Paulo, the most diversified industrial park in the country, had more moderate negative rates (-0.3%). On the other hand, Bahia (8.8%) recorded the most significant increase this month, being mainly affected by the positive performance of petroleum refining and alcohol production. These items were especially influenced by the low comparison basis, since this branch fell 28.1% in November 2011 because of a technical stoppage for maintenance in an important company of this sector. Other positive results came from Minas Gerais (3.0%), Northeast Region (1.2%), Santa Catarina (1.1%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.4%).

In terms of the index accumulated in the period January-November 2012, the decrease in production reached nine of the 14 areas surveyed, especially Amazonas (-7.1%), Espírito Santo (-6.0%), Rio de Janeiro (-5.6%), São Paulo (-4.1%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-3.9%) which recorded rates above the national average (-2.6%). Santa Catarina (-2.6%), Paraná (-2.5%), Ceará (-1.4%) and Pará (-0.9%) complete the group of areas with negative rates in the end of the eleven-month period in 2012. In these localities, the smallest level of dynamism was mainly affected by sectors related to the reduced production of durable consumer goods (automobiles, motorcycles, air conditioners, microwave ovens, cell phones, watches, TVs and automobiles) and of capital goods (especially for transportation equipments and construction), coupled with a lower production coming from mining and quarrying (iron ores), textiles, apparel and basic metals. On the contrary, Goiás (3.5%), Bahia (2.9%), Pernambuco (1.4%), Minas Gerais (1.3%) and Northeast region (1.2%) recorded positive results in the index accumulated in the year

In November 2012, discounted the seasonal influences, the regional indexes of the industrial output pointed out a negative change in six of the 14 places surveyed, with a highlight to the sharpest falls recorded by Goiás (-14.7%), Espírito Santo (-6.3%), Pará (-6.0%) and Paraná (-5.1%). It is worth mentioning that these places posted positive results in October: 16.5%, 13.4%, 4.5% and 2.8%, respectively. São Paulo (-1.9%) and Minas Gerais (-0.7%) close the set of places posting negative results this month.

On the other hand, the Northeast region, with a 4.2% growth, Bahia (3.5%), Santa Catarina (3.0%), Amazonas (2.9%), Ceará (2.2%) and Rio de Janeiro (2.1%) registered the widest expansions this month, whereas Pernambuco (1.3%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.4%) recorded more moderate advances.
