IBGE hosts international event on statistical methodology

“Data Preservation, Dissemination and Confidentiality” is the theme of the event taking place from November 5 to 9, in the Information Dissemination and Documentation Center (CDDI) of IBGE, in Rio. It will gather IBGE’s 1st Methodology Seminar and IASI's (Inter-American Statistical Institute) XI  Meeting on Public Statistics.

The event, sponsored by the World Bank, is an opportunity to discuss and think about the evolution, challenges and prospects of the statistical methodology required to produce, preserve, exchange and disseminate public statistics. Moreover, it will provide participants with the chance of being trained in the statistical area.

The seminar will bring together IBGE technicians and researchers and public and private organizations, representatives of national institutes of statistics and members of the national and international academic community.

Participants can enroll either on the Internet, up to October 31, 2012, or personally during the event.   The fees vary from R$ 80.00 to R$ 160.00, according to the date of the enrollment and the participant condition: regular or IASI member.

Proposals of paper presentations can be submitted until September 28. They can be oral or poster presentations, following to the instructions given on the site.

Besides the conferences and thematic sessions, on November 7, 8 and 9, the program also includes six mini courses, to be held on November 5 and 6, with different fees, according to the enrollment date: R$ 60.00 until 10/8, R$ 80.00 until 10/31 and R$ 100.00 during the event.

The mini courses under the responsibility of the technical team of IBGE cover the following themes: Data Preservation, Storage and Dissemination; Digital tools to access the survey microdata bases of IBGE; Principles of Official Statistics and Information Confidentiality; National Infrastructure of Spatial Data. Two other mini courses - Statistical Methods for Disclosure Control; Preservation and Dissemination of Survey and Census Data: Introduction to the DDI standard and the IHSN Tools – will be given by international-level professors and experts from the University of Manchester and the World Bank.

All the activities will be held in CDDI, located at 706 General Canabarro Avenue – Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro – RJ.
