IBGE releases today (06/27) the Statistical Municipal Maps of the 2010 Population Census. The aim of the maps is to depict the set of urban and rural enumeration area for each Brazilian municipality, as well as the municipal, district and urban perimeter boundaries.  They can be used in governmental studies and projects, in public and private construction referencing and scaling, in studies of the evolution of outbreaks and endemics, of communication and of physic and cultural aspects of the landscape.

The Statistical Municipal Maps were created by a mapping system especially developed for this purpose, which manages all the production of the territorial basis through the conversion of the topographic maps to different cartographic scales, updated with orbital images. The files present the boundaries and numbers of the enumeration areas and of districts, information on watercourses, locations and transport routes, and marginal data relevant to the geographic localization of the municipality in the context of the national territory. The information was updated in the pre-collection phase of the 2010 population census.
