IBGE releases today the Political Map of the Federal District on the scale of 1:100,000, completing the series of Political Maps of the Federation Units.  The map provides a comprehensive knowledge of that territory. The map of the Federal District and the other 26 Federation Units can be either accessed or printed on link https://www.ibge.gov.br/mapas_ibge/pol_estaduais.php.

Unlike the Federal Units, which are divided into municipalities in political maps, the political division of the Federal District is represented by sub-districts, identified by colors and delimited by geographic elements like rivers, roads or even lines. Comprising an area of 5,787.8 km2, the Federal District has the largest demographic density of Brazil (444 inhabitants per km2), ahead of Rio de Janeiro (365.23 inhabitants per km2) and São Paulo (166.25 inhabitants per km2). The Federal District is divided into 19 sub-districts:  Brasília, Gama, Taguatingua, Brazlândia, Sobradinho, Planaltina, Paranoá, Riacho Fundo, Núcleo Bandeirante, Ceilândia, Guará, Cruzeiro, Samambaia, Candangolândia, Recanto das Emas, Lago Norte, Lago Sul, Santa Maria and São Sebastião.

In 2010, IBGE also released the Image Map of the Federal District, the first map with color images from the Alos satellite, providing access to the major geographic names and roads as well as the district limits. It can be downloaded on ftp://geoftp.ibge.gov.br/mapas/tematicos/politico/DF_Mapa_Imagem.pdf
