July 08, 2011 09h00 AM | Last Updated: August 27, 2018 03h40 PM

In May of 2011, the industrial employment recorded a positive change (0.1%) against the immediately previous month, in the seasonally adjusted series. It remained unchanged in relation to March (0.0%) and April (-0.1%), reflecting the slower performance of the industrial production in the last months. Compared with May of 2010, industrial employment expanded 1.3%, the 16th consecutive positive result, but the less intense since February of last year (0.8%). As a result, the accumulated index in the five first months of the year advanced 2.2%, but it was below the 2.4% observed until April. The annual rate (measured by the index accumulated in the last 12 months) recorded 3.5% in May of 2011, continuing the downward trend started in February (3.9%), when it recorded the highest rate since the beginning of the time series. The results of the industrial employment for the monthly and accumulated (in the five first months of the year) indexes signal the continuity of the upward trend, but with a reduction in the pace of growth. That reflects the moderate behavior of the labor market in the industrial sector in the last months and the high base of comparison. The complete publication can be accessed at
