National Index of Civil Construction changed by 1.61% in May

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, changed 1.61% in May, what means a growth of 1.24 percentage point in relation to April (0.37%). Compared with the rate of May, 2009 (1.30%), the current index showed increase. From January to May, 3.46%, above that verified in the same period of 2009 (3.31%). In the last 12 months, the change rate was 6.19%, above that (5.86%) recorded in the immediately previous 12 months.
The national cost of construction by square meter, which in April had been R$ 730.66, in May changed to R$ 742.44: R$ 420.37 related to materials and R$ 322.07 related to workforce.
The item materials presented a 0.41% variation, inferior to the rate of April (0.45%). Workforce increased 2.95 percentage points, changing from 0.27% (April) to 3.22% (May).
In the year, materials increased 1.87%, below the 2.12% from the same period of last year, and workforce increased 6.05%, above the rate recorded in the same period of 2009 (4.98%). In the last 12 months, the accumulated rates were: 4.04% (materials) and 9.13% (workforce).
Southeast region was a highlight in May
In the Southeast the highest regional rate (2.34%) in the month was verified, strongly influenced by the result of São Paulo. The North region presented the lowest result (0.40%).
The other regional indexes had the following variations: 2.26% in Central-West; 1.12% in the South and 0.86% in the Northeast.
The highest rates accumulated in the year and in the last 12 months were recorded in Central-West (4.67% and 7.88%, respectively). The lowest results in these periods were achieved in the South region (2.15% and 5.59%, respectively).
Regional costs, by square meter, were: R$ 787.56 (Southeast); R$ 743.87 (North); R$ 717.59 (South); R$ 716.63% (Central-West) and R$ 696.77 (Northeast).
Goiás recorded the largest rise
Because of salary readjustments due to the collective agreement, Goiás presented, in May, the largest rise in construction costs (4.44%), closely followed by Santa Catarina (4.23%). For the same reason, the following must also be listed: São Paulo (3.59%), Ceará (3.55%), Sergipe (2.81%) and the Federal District (2.66%). The lowest monthly rates were recorded in Maranhão (0.04%) and Roraima (0.07%). Roraima (0.51%), Pernambuco (0.59%), Paraná (0.61%) and Mato Grosso (0.91%) presented the lowest accumulated rates in the year.
