In November, Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) increased by 0.36 %

The index was 0.09 percentage points lower than in October (0.45%) and close to the result registered in November 2007 (0.38%).  The index accumulated in the year (5.61%) was higher than the value of the same period of the previous year (3.69%) and the index accumulated in the last twelve months (6.39%) was close to the one referent to the immediately previous twelve months (6.41%).

 

 

The Extended National Consumer Price Index - IPCA of November increased by 0.36% and was 0.09 percentage points below the rate of 0.45% recorded in October.  With this result, the index accumulated in the year was 5.61%, above the result of the same period of 2007 (3.69%).  In the last twelve months, the change was 6.39%, near the result of 6.41% relative to the immediately previous months.  In November 2007, the rate had been 0.38%.

 

To calculate the index, prices collected in the period October 30 to November 26 (reference period) were compared to prices charged in the period September 30 to October 29 (base period).

 

From one month to the next, the prices of food products increased less: from 0.69% in October, to 0.61% in November.  Several items recorded a lower growth of prices, standing out meats which, from 3.61% in October, increased to 2.53% in November, despite continuing to lead with the highest results (0.06 percentage points).  The main products with increase of prices in the month can be found below.

 

 


 

 

 

The main food products with decrease in November were:


 

 

 

The major hike of food products was recorded in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, with 1.50%, while the lowest result came from São Paulo, with 0.18%.

 

With the result of November, the group food products accumulated hike of 10.71% in the year, a result above the same period of 2007 (8.55%).

 

Regarding non-food products, the rate changed from 0.38% in October to 0.29% in November.

 

The following table shows that the majority of the groups of products and services which compose the IPCA had lower changes in November than the ones recorded in October:

 


 

 

 

In the items of Apparel, which accumulate hike of 6.25% in the year, was significant the reduction in the growing rate of prices from October (1.27%) to November (0.71%).

 

In Housing (from 0.62% to 0.43%), the items water and sewerage account (from 0.77% to 0.00%), repairs (from 1.84% to 1.13%) and electricity (from 0.44% to 0.16%) accounted for the lowest change of the group.

 

In Transportation (from 0.02% to -0.02%), the highlights were used automobiles (from -0.58% to -2.61%) and alcohol (1.08% to -0.21%), while in Personal Expenses (from 0.68% to 0.50%), the items household employees (from 1.11% to 0.86%) and cigarettes (from 0.40% to 0.00%) brought the main contributions for the reduction of the group.

 

Among the areas surveyed, the higher result came from Brasília (0.95%), where gasoline turned 4.84% more expensive and alcohol, 7.61%.  The lowest index came from São Paulo (0.17%), where occurred the lowest rate of food products (0.18%).  In the table below, the results by areas are presented:

 

 


 

 

 

IPCA is calculated by IBGE since 1980 and it refers to families, with monetary income, from any source, ranging from 01 to 40 minimum wages.  It covers nine metropolitan areas, besides the municipality of Goiânia and Brasília.

 

 


INPC increased by 0.38%

 


The National Price Consumer Index - INPC presented change of 0.38% in November, and was 0.12 percentage points below the result of October (0.50%).  In the index accumulated in the year the result was 6.17%, above the rate of 4.15% referent to the same period of the previous year.  In the last twelve months, the result was 7.20%, below the rate of 7.26% of the immediately previous twelve months.  In November 2007, the INPC had been 0.43%.

 


Food products brought change of 0.50% in November, while non-food products increased by 0.33%. In October, the results had been 0.67% and 0.43%, respectively.
