Acquisition of milk by industry fell 11.1% in Q2 2007

In the second quarter of 2007, the acquisition of milk by industry fell 11.1% in comparison with the first quarter. Even so, the volume of milk obtained was 2.3% higher than that in the same period of 2006.

Even so, the volume of milk obtained was 2.3% higher than that in the same period of 2006. Cattle slaughter increased by 1.1% compared to the previous year. The slaughter of swine and poultry increased by 1.6%, compared to the first quarter of 2007, as well as the production of eggs (1.8%).

 

In the second quarter of 2007, a total of 7.6 million heads of cattle were slaughtered all over the country; this figure is 1.1% higher than that of the same period of 2006. The slaughter of cattle faced decrease (-3.7%) in relation to the first quarter this year. The comparison between the second quarters of 2007 and 2006 showed that there was increase of slaughter of all the categories of cattle, except cows (-4.0%). By analyzing the second semester of 2007, it is possible to see that the weight of cattle carcasses is 2.2% higher than in the same period in 2006;on the other hand, it fell by -3.5% in comparison with the first quarter of 2007. Also in the second quarter of 2007, a total of 1,7 million metric tons of bovine meat were produced and the states which represented the main highlights in terms of cattle slaughter were: Mato Grosso (14.5% of the total slaughtered); São Paulo (13.5%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (12.7%). In the second quarter of 2007, the survey had 1,522 informants all over the country.

 

In comparison with the same quarter of 2006, chicken slaughter increased by 21.4%

 

In the second quarter of 2007, 1.1 million chickens were slaughtered, representing an increase of 21.4% compared to the same period of 2006, and of 1.6% compared to the first quarter of 2007. A total of 2.2 million chickens were registered in the period. Paraná was the most significant locality in terms of number of heads slaughtered by state, with 25% of the overall number slaughtered in the country; it was followed by Santa Catarina (18.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (17.4%).

 

Slaughter of swine increased by 7.6%

 

In the second quarter of 2007, a total of 6.6 million hogs and pigs were slaughtered; this figure represents increase of 7.6% compared to the second quarter of 2006 and of 1.6% compared to the first quarter of 2007. In terms of the total weight of carcasses, 603.5 thousand metric tons were registered in the second quarter of 2007, accounting for increase of 8.5% compared to the same period of 2006 and of 2.2% compared to the same quarter of 2007. The average weight of swine slaughtered was about 91 kilograms.

 

Acquisition of milk by industry fell 11.1%

 

In the second quarter of 2007 industry acquired 3.9 billon liters of milk, representing increase of 2.3% in the volume obtained in comparison with the same quarter in the previous year. In relation to the first quarter of 2007 there was decrease by 11.1%. The states which represented the main highlights in terms of milk acquisition were Minas Gerais, with 28.3% of the national total production; Rio Grande do Sul (12.8%); São Paulo (12.7%) and Goiás (12.4%).

 

In the second quarter, 10,7 million pieces of bovine rawhides were acquired

 

In the second quarter of 2007 10.7 million pieces of leather were acquired, that is, 0.7% more than in the same period of 2006 and 1.3% less than in the first quarter of 2007. In terms of effectively tanned leather, there was increase by 0.6% and fall by 2.3% in relation to the second quarter of 2006 and to the first quarter of 2007, respectively. A total of 10.7 million pieces of leather were tanned in the second quarter of 2007.

 

Accumulated production of eggs is 1,06 billion dozens

 

The Survey of Hen’s Eggs had, in the second quarter of 2007, production of 535,7 million dozens of eggs. This figure means an increase of 2.6% compared to the same period of 2006 and of 1.8% compared to the first quarter of 2007. The production of eggs accumulated in the year was 1.06 billion dozens.
