Considering this result, the IPCA-E of the quarter, which includes the accumulated IPCA-15 of July, August and September, was 0.95%. The indexes accumulated in the year and in the last twelve months, were 3.15% and 4.20%, respectively.

Food products and beverages was the main responsible for the reduction of the increase of IPCA-15 from August to September, when there was decrease from 1.61% to 0.87%). Although milk and dairy products is still among the main contributions, with 0.05 percentage points, prices in general have not risen to the same extent. Whereas in August there had been hike of 10.62%, in the September figure is 1.98%. On the other hand, pasteurized milk, whose rate in September is 0.21%, had reached 13.91% in August.

There was deceleration of the price rise of other food products. Meats, for example, changed from 4.21% in August to 1.46% in September; bread changed from 1.86% to 0.64%. On the other hand, some products such as beans and rice had more significant rises: black beans changed from 3.64% to 4.76%; and “carioca” beans, from 2.77% to 5.25%. As for rice, the prices increased from 3.23% in September after having fallen by 0.15% in August. The same way, soybean oil (which changed from 1.61% to 3.74%) had the highest increase.

Among non-food products, whose rate was 0.13%, the highlights were the decreases of gasoline (from 0.70% to -0.86%), alcohol (from -5.65% to -2.08%) and fixed telephony (from 1.02% to -0.92%). In fixed telephony, the result was a consequence of the reduction of the average bill in the metropolitan areas of Belo Horizonte, Recife, Belém, Fortaleza and Salvador, which were influenced by the change of the charging system from pulses to minutes, as shown in the technical notes available on the “Destaques” section of the IBGE web site (in Portuguese).
