In July, industrial employment increased by 0.6%

Increase was in relation to June of this year, after a negative change of 0.1% in the previous month in the series with seasonal adjustment. In the same type of comparison, the number of hours paid shows decrease of 0.3% and real payroll increase of 0.9%.

In July, the industrial employment increased again (0.6%) in relation to the previous month, in the series with seasonal adjustment, after changing -0.1% in June, when it broke five months of positive rates.  In the comparison with July 2006, the increase was 2.0%, maintaining a sequence of thirteen positive rates.   In the index accumulated in the seven first months of the year, the gain was 1.5%.  The indicator accumulated in the last twelve months, in growing trend since October of the previous year, showed acceleration changing from 0.9% in June to 1.1% in July.

 

With the positive result from June to July, the trend of the indicator of the quarterly moving average continued growing since February, accumulating gain of 1.7%.


In relation to July 2006, the number of workers increased in eleven among fourteen surveyed areas especially São Paulo (2.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (2.4%) and Minas Gerais (1.9%).  In the first locality, the main positive contributions came from machines and equipment (8.1%) and transportation (6.3%); in the second, the influences of metal products (41.4%) and food products and beverages (4.6%) were the most relevant; and, in the third, stood out metal products (15.7%) and transportation (13.3%).  On the other hand, reduction of employment was observed in Pernambuco (-1.8%), Bahia (-1.1%) and Ceará (-0.8%).

 

In national level, the number of employed persons increased in eleven among eighteen sectors, compared to July 2006, with food products and beverages (4.1%), transportation (8.2%) and metal products  (8.4%) answering for the most important positive influences.  On the other hand, the most significant negative contributions came from apparel (-4.7%), wood (-9.4%) and paper and printing (-4.0%).

 

In the indicator accumulated in the year, the level of employment in the industry was 1.5% major than in the period January-July 2006, result supported in the growth of thirteen among fourteen localities and twelve among eighteen segments.  In the total of the country, the most relevant positive influences, in terms of participation, came from food products and beverages (4.4%), metal products (6.1%) and transportation (5.2%).  Among the localities, São Paulo (2.4%), Northeast Region (2.0%) and Paraná (2.0%) brought the main positive contributions, and Rio Grande do Sul (-1.1%) recorded the only negative result.  Among the segments, the main decreases in the total of the country were observed in apparel (-5.0%), footwear and leather articles (-6.0%) and wood (-5.7%).

 

During 2007, the index of quarterly moving average shows positive change in relation to the previous month, accumulating between January and July an increase of 1.7%.  This result follows the trend of growth of production which, according to this indicator, shows increase of 4.0% in the same period.

 

 


 

 


Number of Hours Paid

 


In July, the number of hours paid to the workers of industry maintained a negative result (-0.3%) for the second consecutive month compared to the previous month, in the series without seasonal influence, accumulating a decrease of 0.7%.  With this, the indicator of the quarterly moving average interrupts an ascending trend observed since January, presenting a negative change of -0.2% between the quarters closed in July and June.


The comparison with the same month of the previous year registered growth of 1.9%.  Also had increases the indicators for longer periods, which means indicator accumulated in the year and indicator accumulated in the last twelve months, with rates of 1.2% and 1.0%, respectively.


In the monthly index, the number of hours paid increased by 1.9%, mainly due to positive contributions in ten among fourteen localities and eleven among eighteen surveyed segments.  In terms of sectors, the major increases in the overall result came from metal products (10.1%), food products and beverages (3.2%) and transportation (8.5%).  On the other hand, apparel (-5.5%) and wood (-8.5%) brought the major negative results.


Still in this comparison, the localities with the most relevant positive results in the national result were: São Paulo (2.9%), Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná, both with rate of 2.2%.  In São Paulo, eleven among eighteen activities increased the number of hours paid, especially machines and equipment (8.9%), transportation (6.9%) and other products of the manufacturing industry (13.9%).  In the industry of RS stood out, among the positive influences, metal products (57.2%) and food products and beverages (6.0%); and in Paraná, the most significant increase came from transportation (31.4%).


The indicator accumulated January-July registered increase of 1.2%, with positive rates in eleven localities and twelve sectors.  The main positive results, by locality, came from São Paulo (1.8%), Northeast Region (2.0%) and Paraná (2.6%).  On the other hand, Rio Grande do Sul (-1.2%) brought the main negative result.  In the analysis by sectors, the major increases were observed in food products and beverages (4.7%), transportation (5.0%) and metal products (5.2%).  On the other hand, footwear and leather articles (-7.7%) and apparel (-6.4%) brought respectively, the most significant negative results.


Real Payroll

 

In July, the value of the real payroll of the workers of industry seasonally adjusted increased by 0.9% in relation to the immediately previous month, after having a positive change of 0.2% in June.  Still in the adjusted series, the indicator of quarterly moving average was almost stable (0.1%) between the quarters closed in June and July. 


In the comparison with the same period of the previous year, the results continued positive: 5.5% in the monthly indicator and 4.6% in the indicator accumulated in the year. The annualized rate, index accumulated in the last twelve months, showed increase between the months of June (3.2%) and July (3.5%), following an ascending trend since December 2006.


The value of the real payroll increased 5.5% in comparison to July of the previous year. Positive rates were observed in thirteen among fourteen surveyed localities.  The major positive contribution was observed in São Paulo (4.7%), due mainly, to the wage increase in transportation (7.4%), chemical products (10.7%) and metal products (5.8%). Following, it is worth mentioning Rio Grande do Sul (9.9%), due to metal products (60.6%), transportation (17.5%) and food products and beverages (10.6%); Rio de Janeiro (10.3%), due to mining and quarrying (45.7%), transportation (18.9%) and machines and equipment (18.2%); and Minas Gerais (5,9%), due to metal products (24.3%), food products and beverages (9.3%) and machines and equipment (16.2%).  On the other hand, the only decrease was observed in Bahia (-0.4%), due to the wage reduction in food products and beverages (-11.6%) and footwear and leather articles (-13.5%).


In the analysis by sectors, still in the monthly indicator, the value of the payroll increased in fourteen among eighteen activities.  The major positive results came from transportation (8.4%), food products and beverages (6.0%), metal products (14.3%) and mining and quarrying (19.2%).  On the other hand, the main negative results were observed in paper and printing (-4.1%), wood (-11.6%) and tobacco (-15.2%).


The indicator accumulated in the year increased by 4.6%, with expansion in the real payroll in all the surveyed sectors.  The main positive contribution was observed in São Paulo (3.4%), due to chemical products (10.0%), transportation (3.0%) and food products and beverages (3.6%). Other positive influences were observed in Minas Gerais (5.9%), Northeast Region (6.6%) and Rio Grande do Sul (6.0%), due, respectively to mining and quarrying (14.8%) and food products and beverages (10.3%); food products and beverages (7.8%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (27.6%); metal products (38.2%) and food products and beverages (12.2%).


In the analysis by sectors, still in the indicator accumulated in the year, thirteen segments increased the value of the payroll, standing out food products and beverages (6.7%), chemical products (9.5%), mining and quarrying (16.5%) and transportation (3.9%). On the other hand, paper and printing (-3.8%), wood (-7.5%) and footwear and leather articles (-2.8%) brought the most significant losses.
