IPCA-15 of May was 0.26%

The Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15) was 0.26% in May, slightly above the rate of 0.22% registered in April. Consequently, it accumulated 1.88% in the year and 2.99% in the last twelve months.

Despite the reduction in the rate of growth of food products, which decreased by 0.12% while in April they had increased by 0.39%, the IPCA-15 of May was slightly higher. Important items such as fuels increased from one month to the next: from 0.22% to 1.18%.  They were the major individual contribution to the index: 0.06 percentage points.  The consumer began to pay 5.30% more for the liter of alcohol.  This hike influenced the price of gasoline, which increased by 0.81% in the month.

Also presenting hike from one month to the next, stood out: apparel (from 0.43% to 0.64%), electricity   (from 0.03% to 0.77%), household employee (from 0.65% to 0.91%), medicines (from –0.07% to 0.80%), mobile telephone (from 0.71% to 1.06%) and cigarettes (from 0.00% to 2.10%).


Regarding food products, several products turned cheaper during the month, as for example fruits (-3.37%), green vegetables (-2.61%), crystallized sugar (-2.14%) and chicken (-1.21%). The most significant decreases were observed in tomatoes (-35.08%) and carrots (-22.70%).


Among the indexes by areas, the major result came from Brasília (0.53%).  With very close results, Rio de Janeiro (0.04%) and Fortaleza (0.02%) presented the lowest results.
