National Index of Construction changed by 0.41% in April

The National Index of Construction, calculated by the IBGE, in partnership with Caixa Econômica Federal, changed by 0.41% in April and decreased 0.21 percentage points in relation to March (0.62%), accumulating 1.71% in the year and 5.49% in the last 12 months. This result was similar to the one of April 2006 (0.42%).
The national cost per square meter changed from R$ 578.40 in March to R$ 580.75 in April, being R$ 335.49 relative to material and R$ 245.26 relative to labor force.
Material increased by 0.36%, a rate near to the one observed in March (0,38%). Labor force decreased by 0.49 percentage points, changing from 0.95% in March, to 0.46% in April. The indexes accumulated were, in the year, 1.55% (material) and 1.93% (labor force) and, in the last 12 months, 4.54% (material) and 6.83% (labor force).
Northeast had major index among regions
Influenced by the indexes of Ceará (4.34%) and Paraíba (3.88%), the Northeast had the major index by regions (1.18%) in April.
The other regional changes were below the national index (0.41%): North (0.30%), Central West (0.15%), Southeast (0.14%) and South (0.07%).
The highest indexes accumulated in the year (3.38%) and in the last 12 months (7.39%) were registered in the Northeast Region.
The regional costs were R$ 616.77 (Southeast); 571.93 (South), R$ 565.60 (North), R$ 548.12 (Central West) and R$ 547.55 (Northeast).
Ceará and Paraíba registered the major hikes among the states
Due to wage readjustments of the professional categories of construction, the state of Ceará registered the major monthly index (4.34%), followed by Paraíba (3.88%).
In April, some states had indexes close to stability, such as Rio Grande do Sul (0.03%); Santa Catarina (0.05%); Goiás (0.06%); São Paulo (0.07%) and Amapá (0.09%).
Ceará (6.07%) recorded the highest index accumulated in the year and Paraibá (10.75%), the highest index accumulated in the last 12 months.
