Telecommunications, municipal highway transportation and engineering projects are outstanding products in the services sector

The Supplement of Products and Services of the Annual Survey of Services 2004 (PAS) researched products related to Information, Transportation and, for the first time, Engineering and Architecture services.

The Information services had a revenue of R$ 115.6 billion in 2004, in comparison with R$ 98.6 billion of 2003.  The Telecommunications services represented 68.8% of this revenue, participation similar to the one of 2003 (68.7%). Among the 20 main products of Information services, 11 belonged to the segment of Telecommunications, standing out the complementary services of wire telecommunication and the fixed–mobile services, which had  the first two positions in the ranking, with the respective percentages of 10.1%, and 6.8%.

The segment of Computer science services was responsible for 18.5% of the total of revenue of Information services, a percentage below the value of 2003 (19.0%). Development, edition and software ready for use licensing represented 19.3% of the Computer science services, same percentage of development of ordered software or specific for client. Both are in the ranking of the 20 major Information services, in the 10th and 11th position respectively.  The Audiovisual services answered for 12.7% of the revenue of Information services in 2004, increasing the  participation in relation to 2003 (12.3%).  The services of conventional (non cable) television represented 52.8% of the audiovisuals, remaining in the 3rd position in the ranking of table 1.

The Transportation services had a revenue of R$ 80.0 billion in 2004, comparatively to the R$ 67.1 billion of 2003, in current values. The Highway cargo transportation had 33.2% of this revenue, compared to 29.7% in 2003.  The highway transportation of general loose cargo /not in units  (1)  was the main product, answering for 47.1% of the revenue of Highway cargo transportation, and had the second place in the general ranking of Transportation.  The services of Passenger highway transportation represented 26.5% of the revenue of the sector of Transportation, a lower participation than in 2003 (29.2%).  The main product was municipal transportation (62.8%), which also represented 16.6% of the sector of Transportation which as a whole was the first one in the ranking of this activity.
The services of the Air transportation companies had a participation of 22.0% in the revenue of Transportation, having a decrease in relation to 2003 (23.1%).  The air transportation of passengers in regular domestic lines generated 29.2% of the revenue of the segment, figuring in the third position of the ranking of Transportation as a whole (14.8% of revenue of the sector).

The Services of Engineering and Architecture had in 2004, R$ 4.7 billion in revenue, which represents an increase in relation to the R$ 3.8 billion of 2003, in current values.  The Services of Engineering represented 77.9% of the total of the sector standing out the services of elaboration and monitoring of projects of water, gas, electricity, telecommunications and administration of residues and services of elaboration and monitoring of industrial projects.  These services had the first and second position in the ranking of table 3 respectively.

The products of engineering summed, represented 92.1% of the revenue of the segment as a whole.  The services of architecture participated with 5.5% of the revenue of the segment of services of Engineering and Architecture.
