In November, Industrial production grows in eight among 14 surveyed localities

In November, the regional production of industry had a scenario of positive results in eight among 14 surveyed areas. In the comparison with November 2004, the highlight was the increase registered by Pernambuco (12.3%). The industries of Rio de Janeiro (4.0%), Minas Gerais (3.8%), Espírito Santo (1.5%), Bahia (1.1%) and Pará (0.9%) also grew above the total of Brazil (0.6%). The Northeast Region (0.5%) and São Paulo (0,3%) indicated positive rates, although below the national average, while the other localities had negative results: Santa Catarina (-2.2%), Amazonas (-2.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (-3.4%), Goiás (-3.7%), Ceará (-6.2%) and Paraná (-10.4%).

In the accumulated indicator from January until November, compared to a similar period of 2004, there was expansion in almost all the surveyed areas, with the exception of Ceará (-1.1%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-3.8%). In this index, the leadership of the performance by regions remained with Amazonas (13.5%). With rates also above the national average (3.1%) were Minas Gerais (6.4%), Pará (3.8%), São Paulo (3.7%), Bahia (3.5%) and Goiás (3.2%). In these localities the pattern of growth observed for the total of the industry during the last year was confirmed. This occurred since the industrial structure in these states has a strong participation of the segments of consumer goods, durable, semi-durable and non-durable, besides the participation of typically export sectors. The other localities registered the following results: Northeast Region and Pernambuco (both with 2.3%), Rio de Janeiro (1.9%), Espírito Santo (1.8%), Paraná (1.0%) and Santa Catarina (0.4%).

Amazonas

The industrial production of Amazonas fell by 2.4% in November, in relation to the same month of 2004, after having fifteen positive consecutive results in this type of comparison. Nevertheless, the indicators for longer periods continued with significant rates of expansion: 13.5% in the accumulated from January to November and 13.6% in the accumulated in the last twelve months.

The monthly indicator fell by 2.4% due to a decrease observed in six among 11 surveyed activities. The main highlight, which contributed negatively for the formation of the overall index, was electronic material and communication equipment (-13.6%). It can also be pointed out the negative results of petroleum refining and alcohol production (-25.7%) and machines and equipment (-17.5%). Among the ones that indicated positive rates, food products and beverages (23.2%) brought the main impact.

In the accumulated indicator from January to November 2005, compared to a similar period of the previous year, the growth of 13.5% in the industrial production of Amazonas showed, mainly, the expansion observed in eight among eleven surveyed activities. Electronic material and communication equipment, with increase of 25.2%, stood out as the main positive contribution for the overall index, especially mobile telephones and TV sets. It can also be pointed out food products and beverages (12.2%) and other transportation equipment (9.5%). On the other hand, rubber and plastic (-20.2%) brought the main negative pressure.

Pará

In November, the industry of Pará recorded a slight increase of 0.9% in the comparison with the same month of the previous year. The indicators for larger periods also grew: 3.8% in the accumulated indicator of the year and 4.2% in the accumulated indicator of the last twelve months.

According to the monthly indicator, there was increase in three among six surveyed segments. In the formation of the overall rate, food products and beverages (25.4%) and mining and quarrying (4.0%) brought the main positive influences. On the other hand, wood (-20.9%) figured as the main negative influence.

The growth of 3.8% in the accumulated January-November was determined, mainly, by the favorable performance of mining and quarrying (10.0%). Following, it can be pointed out the positive result that came from basic metal products (2.8%). Among the segments that indicated negative results, the main influences were wood (-8.0%) and non-metallic minerals (-7.6%).

Northeast

The industrial production of the Northeast recorded, in November, a slight expansion (0.5%) in the comparison with same month of the previous year. The indicators for larger periods also grew: 2.3% in the accumulated in the year and 2.9% in the accumulated of the last twelve months.

According to the monthly indicator, there was expansion in five among eleven surveyed segments, being food products and beverages (8.4%), cellulose and paper (55.3%) and basic metal products (7.9%) the main positive contributions. On the other hand, the major negative results came from chemical products (-8.4%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (-8.3%).

In the accumulated indicator January - November, there was growth in six among 11 surveyed activities. The positive results by sectors came from food products and beverages (4.1%), non-metallic minerals (14.5%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (3.8%). Among the ones that indicated fall, the main results came from mining and quarrying (-3.8%) and textiles (-3.4%)

Ceará

In November 2005, the industrial production of Ceará fell by 6.2% in relation to the same month of the previous year. In the accumulated indicator of the year there was fall of 1.1%, while the accumulated indicator of the last twelve months still registered a slight positive rate (0.4%).

The industry of the state, for the fifth consecutive month, fell in the monthly indicator, although only four among ten industrial surveyed sectors indicated unfavorable performances. The main negative impact for the formation of the rate of –6.2% came from textiles (-18.9%). It can also be mentioned the poor performance of footwear and leather articles (-21.4%) and food products and beverages (-7.1%). The major positive contributions came from petroleum refining and alcohol production (78.6%) and, in a lower degree, from chemical products (6.2%).

In the accumulated indicator of the year, compared to the same period of 2004, the industry of the state fell by 1.1%, with negative rates in four among 10 investigated activities. The main negative influences were observed in footwear and leather articles (-7.8%) and in food products and beverages (-3.7%). On the other hand, the positive performances that most influenced the overall average came from non-metallic minerals (23.2%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (11.9%).

Pernambuco

The industry of Pernambuco had, in November, expansion of 12.3% in relation to the same month of the previous year. The indicators for longer periods continued positive: 2.3% in the accumulated of the year and 2.1% in the accumulated of the last twelve months.

The industry of the state recorded a significant growth in November (12.3%), changing in this way the negative result obtained in October (-1.9%). Six among 11 surveyed industrial activities had a favorable performance, especially food products and beverages (18.6%). Other significant positive contributions came from basic metal products (30.3%) and rubber and plastic (26.7%). On the other hand, the main negative results came from metal products (-12.9%) and chemical products (-3.4%).

In the accumulated indicator of the year, six among 11 sectors also had positive results, being food products and beverages (3.1%), electric machines, equipment and materials (19.3%) and chemical products (5.9%) the major positive contributions. On the other hand, the main negative influences came from metal products (-13.5%) and textiles (-18.8%).

Bahia

In November 2005, the industrial production of Bahia grew by 1,1% in relation to the same month of the previous year. The indicators for longer periods continued positive: 3.5% in the accumulated of the year and 4.2% in the accumulated of the last twelve months. All the three rates surpassed the national average.

The increase of 1.1% in the monthly indicator was influenced, mainly, by the increase in six among nine surveyed industrial sectors. The major positive contribution came from cellulose and paper (77.9%). It can also be mentioned food products and beverages (8.7%) and basic metal products (9.0%). On the other hand, the main negative results came from chemical products (-8.8%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (-10.4%).

In the accumulated indicator January-November, also six among nine investigated activities grew. The major positive influences came from cellulose and paper (15.7%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (4.2%). The main falls came from chemical products (-0.8%) and mining and quarrying (-3.3%).

Minas Gerais

The industrial production of Minas Gerais had, in November, for the twenty-eighth consecutive month, expansion in the three surveyed indicators: 3.8% in the comparison with the same month of the previous year, 6.4% in the accumulated in the period January-November and 6.1% in the accumulated of the last twelve months.

The growth of 3.8% in the monthly indicator of the industry of Minas was sustained, mainly, by the performance of mining and quarrying (9.7%). The manufacturing industry increased by 2.8% the production, with positive results in nine among 12 surveyed sectors. In this segment, the major positive impacts came from basic metal products (4.9%) and metal products (17.5%). On the other hand, the main negative result was observed in other chemical products (-16.3%).

In the accumulated indicator of the year, compared to a similar period of 2004, the growth showed the favorable performance in mining and quarrying (12.7%) as well as in manufacturing (5.4%). The first one which stood out as the main contribution for the overall index, was favored by the positive performance of iron ores extraction while the second one was influenced by the growth in 10 among 12 surveyed activities. In this last one, the major positive contributions came from automotive vehicles (11.3%) and metal products (32.2%). Among the groups with negative results, basic metal products (-2.8%) brought the main one.

Espírito Santo

The industrial production of Espírito Santo grew by 1.5%, in November 2005, in comparison with the same month of the previous year, being this, the fourth positive consecutive result in this type of comparison. The indicators for longer periods also increased: 1.8% in the accumulated of the year and 2.5% in the accumulated of the last twelve months.

The monthly indicator of the industrial production of the state grew by 1.5%, although only two among five surveyed sectors grew: basic metal products (9.6%) and non-metallic minerals (9.8%). On the other hand, the main negative contributions came from cellulose and paper (-4.3%) and mining and quarrying (-2.6%).

The growth of 1.8% in the accumulated indicator from January to November, compared to a similar period of 2004, occurred due to the positive behavior of four among five surveyed sectors. The activities in expansion which most contributed to the formation of the overall index were: cellulose and paper (3.1%), non-metallic minerals (5.7%) and mining and quarrying (1.7%). The only segment with fall was basic metal products (-0.5%).

Rio de Janeiro

In November, the industry of Rio de Janeiro had positive rates in the main indicators. In the comparison with November 2004, the production increased by 4.0%, registering, in this way, the fourth positive consecutive result in this type of comparison. Hence, in the comparison with longer periods, the industry of the state continued presenting expansion, 1.9% in the accumulated of the year and 2.1% in the last twelve months.

In the comparison November 05/ November 04, the major part (nine) among the 13 surveyed groups had positive indexes. The favorable performance of mining and quarrying (21.2%) kept the sequence of nine positive results and brought the main contribution for the formation of the overall rate. In manufacturing, which also registered increase in the production (0.7%), the highlights were: food products, with growth of 13.4%; edition and printing (9.8%) and automotive vehicles (12.4%). Among the four groups with negative results, the main influences came from rubber and plastic (-29.1%), perfumery, soaps and cleaning products (-31.0%) and basic metal products (-5.5%).

In the accumulated indicator January-November 2005, compared to same period of 2004, mining and quarrying (14.7%), sustained in the extraction of petroleum and natural gas, brought the major result over the overall index, once manufacturing fell by 0.7%. In this last segment, five among 12 analyzed segments expanded the production, being observed the major positive contributions in the composition of the overall result in non-metallic minerals (22.0%) and automotive vehicles (16.2%). Among the activities that reduced the production, stood out, in this comparison, basic metal products, with decrease of 7.6%, and rubber and plastic (-24.9%).

São Paulo

The industry of São Paulo had in November, a slight positive change (0.3%) compared to the same month of 2004. In this type of comparison, the three last months indicated the lowest results since 2003. With this, the accumulated for January-November remained in 3.7%, below the value of 4,1% observed in October. The annualized rate, accumulated indicator in the last twelve months, showed the deceleration trend observed in the last months, changing from 5.1% in October to 4.3% in November.

In the comparison November 05/ November 04, even presenting predominance (12) of activities with negative results, the industrial production of the state indicated a slight increase of 0.3%. The main positive contribution in the formation of the overall rate remained with pharmaceuticals (35.7%). It may also be pointed out, the increases observed in automotive vehicles (3.3%), edition and printing (4.9%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (3.8%). Among the groups that indicated fall in the production, the ones that most influenced the industrial average were: electronic material and communication equipment (-10.0%), machines and equipment (-5.7%), apparel (-17.9%) and basic metal products (-8.2%).

In the accumulated indicator January -November, compared to a similar period of 2004, the total growth of the industry (3.7%) was slightly lower than in October (4.1%), with 14 activities indicating increase in the production. The industry of pharmaceuticals (25.3%) maintained the leadership in terms of impact upon the overall index. Other significant positive contributions came from edition and printing (17.3%), electric machines, equipment and materials (15.1%) and machines and equipment (5.9%). On the other hand, among the six activities with fall, the ones with major influence upon the overall rate continued to be electronic material and communication equipment (-6.9%) and textiles (-8.4%).

Paraná

The industrial production of Paraná fell by 10.4% in November 2005, in the comparison with the same period of the previous year. This was the fifth negative consecutive result in this type of comparison. In the accumulated index in the year and in the last twelve months, positive rates were recorded of respectively 1.0% and 2.0%.

The decrease of 10.4% in the monthly comparison showed, mainly, the unfavorable performance of eight among 14 surveyed groups. The sectors which most contributed negatively for the formation of the overall index were edition and printing (-31.6%), food products (-13.8%) and machines and equipment (-22.0%). On the other hand, the sectors that stood out with the major positive influences were electric machines, equipment and materials (55.2%) and cellulose and paper (10.9%).

In the accumulated indicator in the period January-November, compared to the same period of 2004, seven segments grew. The main positive highlights were automotive vehicles (22.9%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (11.8%). On the other hand, among the groups that fell, stood out food products (-6.1%) and other chemical products (-19.6%).

Santa Catarina

In November 2005, the industry of Santa Catarina fell by 2.2% compared to a similar period of the previous year. This was the fifth consecutive negative result in this type of comparison. Nevertheless, the indicators accumulated in the year (0.4%) and in the last twelve months (1.5%) continued positive, although less elevated than in the previous months.

In the comparison November 05/ November 04, the industrial production of the state fell due to the unfavorable performance of six among 11 investigated industrial segments. The main negative contribution continued to be recorded in machines and equipment (-8.6%). It can also be pointed out the fall observed in apparel (-9.9%). On the other hand, automotive vehicles (7.7%), textiles (3.8%) and cellulose and paper (6.3%) brought the main positive results.

The accumulated indicator January-November, compared to same period of 2004, although growing in a moderate rate (0.4%), maintained a generalized profile of growth. The asymmetry in the performances by sectors explains the global results near zero. There was expansion in eight out of 11 surveyed activities, especially automotive vehicles (42.7%). It can be pointed out the positive performance of the industries of food products (2.9%), textiles (5.3%) and cellulose and paper (7.0%). On the other hand, the industries of machines and equipment (-12.1%), apparel (-12.2%) and electric machines equipment and materials (-13.7%) were the only ones to show decrease.

 

 

Rio Grande do Sul

The industry of Rio Grande do Sul had, in November, a fall of 3.4%, in the comparison with the same month of the previous year. The indicators for longer periods also registered falls: -3.8% in the accumulated indicator of the year and –3.4% in the last twelve months.

The fall of 3.4% in the monthly indicator showed the adverse performances of 10 among 14 surveyed activities in the industry of the state, being footwear and leather articles (-18.7%), machines and equipment (-12.9%) and other chemical products (-12.6%) the main negative results. The main positive results in the overall index came from petroleum refining and alcohol production (29.4%) and food products (14.3%).

In the accumulated indicator in the period January-November, compared to a similar period of 2004, the drop of 3.8% showed the negative performance of the majority (11) of the 14 surveyed sectors. Machines and equipment (-19.3%), footwear and leather articles (-5.0%) and other chemical products (-5.9%) brought the main negative results. Food products (3.9%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (5.0%) stood out among the activities that grew.

Goiás

The industry of Goiás, in November, registered fall of 3.7% in comparison with the same month of 2004. Nevertheless, the indicators for longer periods continued positive: 3.2% in the accumulated of the year and 4.5% in the accumulated of the last twelve months.

For the third consecutive month, the industrial production of Goiás fell in the monthly indicator, with negative rates in four among five industrial sectors. The major negative influence came from mining and quarrying (-30.2%). It can also be mentioned, the decrease observed in chemical products (-10.6%) and non-metallic minerals (-4.7%). On the other hand, basic metal products (12.1%) was the only activity that indicated a positive result.

On the other hand, the sectors that most influenced negatively were chemical products (-11.0%) and mining and quarrying (-3.0%).
