The National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE), a Federal Institute of Education which belongs to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics Foundation – IBGE, is currently persons not working for IBGE to take part in the Course on Development of Surveying Abilities (CDHP).

Up to five students not working for IBGE will be selected:

• Post-graduation students (taking master’s and doctorate programs), especially those in the fields of Social Sciences or Statistics at public Brazilian education institutions;

• Employees at statistics institutes of African Portuguese speaking countries (PALOPs);

• Professors and researchers from Survey Institutes and from public Brazilian education institutions, able to work as disseminators;

• Servants at public statistics agencies and organizations.

   

With a total duration of six weeks full-time (240 hours), the course will take place from March 6 to April 17, 2006.

Based on the Survey Skills Development Course from the Statistics Canada, CDHP will enable its participants to develop a broad view of the process of planning and conduction of a household sample survey. Having the requirements of a certain client as the starting point, the students are going, in a short period of time, to develop a project, conduct a survey and present its results. The course aims at the dissemination of skills developed during CDHP to other persons involved in the planning and conduction of social surveys. 

Applications must be done by the Institution through which the applicant will be sent to IBGE. An agreement stating the student is not going to drop the course is supposed to be signed, so as not to interfere with group activities happening during the course. Applications  will be received up to February 13, 2006.
