Fixed telephony and highway transportation of passengers lead the segments of information services and transportation services

The 2003 edition of the supplement of products and services of the Annual Survey of Services by IBGE (PAS 2003) focused on Information Services and Transportation Services. The complementary services of wire telecommunication (subscriptions, changes of ownership, etc) repeated in 2003 the leadership of 2002 in the ranking of products/services of Information. Similarly, bus transportation services of passengers in regular municipal lines had, in 2003 as well as in 2002, the first position in the ranking of the segment.

Of the twenty major products / services relative to the segment of Information, twelve belonged to the group of Telecommunications, which accounted for 69.7% of the revenue of this segment. Complementary services of wire telecommunication totaled the biggest revenue (R$ 9,989 billion). Fixed-mobile services (R$7,319 billion) was in the second position, which belonged in 2002 to fixed telephony long-distance calls (now the third in the ranking). Services of interconnection of wireless telecommunication had a remarkable performance, escalating from the seventh to the fourth position in 2002 and reaching the revenue of R$6,503 billion. Also stood out the service of interconnection of telecommunication by fixed telephone, which was past the twentieth position in the same period, with revenue of R$2,480 billion.

The group of computer science services accounted for 18% of the total revenue of Services of Information in 2003, having been the highlight the products/services of Data Processing, which was in the 14th position in the ranking of Information services, with a revenue of R$ 2,357 billion. Audiovisual services kept, in 2003, the same participation observed in 2002 (12.4% of the revenue of information services).


PAS 2003 showed that in the segment of transportation, highway transportation of passengers in regular municipal bus lines led the ranking of products/services, totaling a revenue of R$12,367 billion. It was followed by highway transportation of general loose cargo /not in units (sacked, packaged or manufactured products, including steel metallurgy products), with a revenue of R$ 9,865 billion, and in third place by air transportation of passengers in regular domestic national lines (R$6,690 billion).
