National School of Statistical Sciences Offers Course on Development of Surveying Abilities

The National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE) will be selecting, until September 30th, students for the 18th edition of the Course on Development of Surveying Abilities (CDHP), which will take place from October 17 to November 26, in Rio de Janeiro. Its target public is formed by IBGE’s civil servants, post-graduation students in the fields of Social Sciences and Statistics and specialists from education and survey institutes. This year ENCE will select five students from the general public.

CDHP, which is based on the Survey Skills Development Course from the Statistics Canada, will enable its participants to develop a broad view of the process of planning and conduction of a household sample survey, including theory and practice. Having the requirements of a certain client as the starting point, the students are going to develop a project, conduct the survey and present results. The course encompasses, among other topics, classes on sampling notions, elaboration of questionnaires, field operations and systems of evaluation /expansion of sampling surveys; establishment of deadlines and tables of costs.

Applications of external students may be submitted up to September 30, upon filling in of an application form (available on the web site www.ence.ibge.gov.br

) which must be mailed to ENCE. The final result of the selection will be available on the web site on October 5, 2005.

The National School of Statistical Sciences – ENCE is a Federal Institute of Education which belongs to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics Foundation – IBGE. Created initially for the training of IBGE’s civil servants and also of those of the public sector in general, ENCE expanded its activities and is currently offering the following courses: Major in Statistics, Specialization Course (Lato Sensu) in Environmental Analysis and Territory Management; Master’s Program (Strictu Sensu) in Population Studies and Social Surveys.
