IBGE will carry out survey about sports in the country, the first one since the 1970's

The Minister of Sports, Agnelo Queiroz, and the IBGE President, Eduardo Pereira Nunes, announced today, September 02nd, at 10 o’clock, at the Esplanada dos Ministérios [Presidential Palace] in Brasília, the accomplishment of a survey directed to the sector of sports in the country - Sports Supplements 2004 – which integrates the Survey of Basic Municipal Information (MUNIC). The survey is part of an agreement signed between IBGE and the Sports Ministry, and it will help to build an update status of the sports situation in the 5,560 Brazilian counties, since the last study about sports was made in the 1970’s. The project is in its first phase, and the survey will be done in the City Halls that will answer a questionnaire about sports. At the same opportunity, the Sports Survey 2004 - State Government, will be announced as well, and will get sports related information under the State Government responsibility. The announcement of both surveys is scheduled for the second semester in 2005.

The objective of the surveys is to get information at the City Halls and State Governments about the human resources used in the sports management; the institutional articulations, both State and Federal, focusing on the development of policies and activities related to sports, the aspects related to the sports legislation, the agreements and partnerships, the Government actions, project and programs, developed separately or in partnership with other departments, the sports events and modalities, the existing sports equipment and installations, or the ones under construction.

The information mentioned above, along with other survey data carried out by the Sports Ministry will contribute for the elaboration of a broad profile about the sports situation in the country, as well as for the creation and implementation of public policies for this sector.

See below some items that compose the questionnaires that will be answered by the City Halls and State Governments:

 - Human Resources Used In The Sports Management –

Gathers information about the people who work in the sports sector by their functions: Administrative, Support (janitors, security, etc), and Technical (teachers, trainees, instructors, coaches, monitors, etc.).

The survey will also inform the type of work regime (state, public service, commissioned, self- employed).

 - Institutional Articulation

- The existence and participation of entities in the sports council, other councils operating in the sports segment, the municipal sports leagues, professional entities, as well as the existence of sports federation in every State.

- Object of The Sports Legislation, Both Municipal and State

- "Bolsa Atleta" [Athlete Scholarship]; Sports Municipal and State System; Sports Support Fund, etc.

- Agreements and Partnerships

– Number of agreements and partnerships, participating entities and its share of responsibility in the agreements, etc.

- Actions, Projects and Programs

– by manifestation of sports: (educational, performance, sports and leisure), and number of participants in the actions, projects and programs divided by age, and PPD (Pessoas Portadoras de Deficiência) [Physically Impaired Persons].

- Events and Sports Modalities

– quantity of events (regular, and non-regular ones) by manifestation and modality of the sport, events reach: municipal, intermunicipal, State, interstate, national, international, etc; space adapted in the events, existence of a sports calendar.

- Installations and sports equipment

(*) – under the management and/or owned by the City Hall or State Government.

(*) Sports Installations – courts; soccer fields; track fields; swimming pools (recreational, semi-olympic and olympic) etc.

Sports equipment: Soccer stadiums, aquatic centers and/or sports complex, auto racing tracks, kart racing tracks, hippodromes, and others, rodeo arenas and gymnasiums.

 - Number of municipal and State schools, parks/public squares, and beaches with sports equipment/installations;

- Number of equipment and courts, the total and according to the location (urban and rural zones);

 - Number of installations, according to the possibility to make official sports competitions;

 - Number of installations and gymnasiums, according to the location (municipal and State schools, parks/public squares, aquatic centers and sports complex, soccer stadiums, etc);

 - Number and general features of the courts, soccer fields, swimming pools, track fields (cover, lighting, heat, infrastructure, benches, dress rooms/washrooms, and proper access to PPD [Physically Impaired Persons];

 - Number, capacity for public and infra structure of the equipment (proper access for PPD, lodging, parking, installation for the press, ticket booths, etc).
