The National Civil Construction Index, calculated by the IBGE in partnership with the CAIXA, increased 0.94% in July, advancing 0.20 percentage points in comparison to June (0.74%).

This result was similar to the one registered in July 2003. The accrued rate for the year was of 5.94% and 9.70% for the last twelve months, lower than those registered in the same periods of 2003 (10.38% and 19.06%).

The national cost per square meter passed to R$ 484.75, with R$ 278.79 being related to materials and R$ 205.96 to labor. 

The share materials varied 1.01%, very close to June’s rate (0.93%).

Labor (0.85%) remained higher than June (0.49%) by 0.36 percentage point. The accrued indexes were:

For the year: materials with 6.50% and labor 5.18%

For twelve months: 8.98% and 10.70%

South and Midwest regions had the highest increases

The South and Midwest regions remained above the national average (0.94%) in the monthly comparison, with highs of 1.70% and 1.38%, respectively, due to the wage readjustments that took place in Paraná and Mato Grosso. The Southeast (0.76%), Northeast (0.72%) and North (0.67%) registered below the average.

The Midwest region also registered the highest index in the year (6.91%), being followed by the South with 6.04%. In the last twelve months, the highlight was the Southeast region (10.53%).

The lowest results were observed in the North, which accrued variations of 4.82% in the year and 8.42% in twelve months. The regional costs were of: R$ 521.80 (Southeast); R$ 491.70 (South); R$ 471.12 (Midwest); R$ 463.90 (North) and R$ 436.55 (Northeast).

Mato Grosso had the highest index among the states

Due to the wage readjustment in professional categories, the cost of construction increased 3.25% in Mato Grosso. For the same reason, other states also had their monthly indexes pressured more intensively: Paraná (2.70%), Acre (2.60%) and Alagoas (2.52%).

The state of Paraíba registered the lowest index (0.24%) from June to July.

The highest accrued indexes in the year and in twelve months were of respectively: 7.93% in Rio de Janeiro and 15.04% in Mato Grosso.
